Question WBCCI numbers .. identifying the owners

Hello .. Does anyone know how to find out the identity of the owners of previously owned Airstreams? We bought our trailer from someone who only had it for a year and only used it 3x and the wife preferred motels. We can see the faint marking of the numbers and would like to know some of the past history of our trailer .. we know the numbers . I thought there was something on the WBCCI site where numbers could be entered and checked for past years.. am I wrong? Thanks Annie

I understand your curiosity but you must be a current member in order to identify other members. Sounds like a secret society I know but for good reason I suspect with the weirdos out there today.

Go ahead and join, you will get an annual membership booklet that will have the current members listed but it still won't help unless those members were current when the numbers were put on your trailer. They can be reassigned as they become available, for instance if a member did not renew.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no online resource for tracking down previous owners and the WBCCI would not be inclined to disclose member information, especially to non-members or info on past members.

However, if you are a WBCCI member, you receive a Membership Directory annually. If they are still members with a newer trailer, they may have transfered their membership numbers to their new trailer and could be listed...or they could have been reassigned. Obviously, if they are no longer members they wouldn't be listed in the current directory. In that case, you may be able to find an older directory from someone who has been a long-term member which may have a listing of your previous owners. Of course, if it's been a while, their info may be outdated....

Good luck on your search!

Shari

Annie,
It is my understanding that you can request a number from WBCCI, if it is not in use they will re issue it. Our AS has at least 2 and possibly 3 sets of PO numbers on it. The game plan, when we get ready for the WBCCI , I am going to ask for the last set of numbers that was on there in an attempt to hide some of the ugly. If you can find a member with the directory from the year that the numbers are from you will be able to determine the PO. Some of the elder long time members will have these directories. As far as I know WBBCI doesn't keep or hand out this information. All they will tell you is if the number is available or not.

The member that the numbers were assigned to has a two year window to get them back. Once it has been more than two years you can ask for the number, and it will be assigned. I am sure if you have a letter from the former member you could get the existing number assigned pronto.

That being said I do know of a way to research the numbers. Chas provided a good starting point. Once you are a member you can stop in at top of Georgia Airstream Park. There thy have a library of the old member books going back for quite a few years (25? was the last I heard) and do some research. The difficult thing will be to determine what member with the number you currently have, owned that trailer. Good luck!!
.

Similar Number

Aaron,

That is exactly what I did. The old number on my Airstream, 8472, was currently in use by another person. I emailed the membership director of WBCCI and she said 6472 was available and that I could have it when I joined.

When we joined we gave them three possible numbers that we wanted. We ended up with our first choice 5024. That happens to be the same number as the address of the home where I grew up.
