I have attached a copy of a page from the 1957 Wally Byam's Caravanners directory listing Frank, Marge, & Mike (that's me) Brumback #1200. This is the first year we are listed in the directory, as we joined the club in the Fall of 1956.

I am wondering if there are any other members still active in the club from 1956 or earlier. Of course, Dale (Pee Wee) Schwamborn preceeds me.

I believe that Dale and I are the only kids listed in the early directories. Also of note is that Wally & Stella are also listed on this page.

It might be fun to form an Old Timers group.

Hi Mike,
I know WBCCI #23 is still held by the son (Thomas Towsley) of it's original assignees: Paul and Frances Towsley. I met Thomas a couple of years ago and he has a lot of early history. He was on some of the early caravans (#2, #3, #6, #10, #13, #30, etc.) with Wally as a child, as were you, but he is NOT listed with hist parents in the 1955 nor 1960 Directories. I beleive that #23 has been continuously held by the Towsley family from 1952 to current. That is probably the record for longest continuously used WBCCI number (starting three years before the club was formed!).

I know that at least one Charter member of WBCCI that is still around, Rupert Leuch, #496, who joined the club in 1955 and first participated on Caravan #6 - Eastern Canada 1955. His wife Vera passed away a couple of years ago. I think they were both at the 2008 Bull Shoals, Arkansas 50th anniversary celebration of the 1st International Rally.

I know of one or two others there were children caravan participants in the 1950's and are currently members themselves, but the names escape me at the moment, so that's all I have for now.

Mike that seems like a neat idea. Perhaps you could write a short article and send it to the BB for publication. There may be some old timers as you say that don't frequent the internet or this forum. It would be cool to have your special group post pictures and stories in the BB too as well as show current trips and rallies. Isn't one of the sons of the official Airstream photographer still posting here? Ardian Miller was the photographer, Randy has posted here.

I am looking for that phot of the two little boys dressed as cowboys. I love that picture.

It's a small world. Paul Towsley lived in Indianapolis and was an Airstream friend of my Dad. I remember attending several events with the Towsleys.

I located Tom's eMail and have dropped him a line. Not heard back yet.

I was lucky enough to be parked next to the Towsley's at an Int'l rally a couple of years ago and enjoyed hearing the history.....seeing #23 must start a lot of conversations
