Forrest,

It is YOU that is the 'good guy' as you have enunciated the root causes of the WBCCI's problems more succinctly than I have ever heard them stated. If anyone has ANY DOUBT as to why the club will fail while on it's present path, a simple read of your statement above should provide them with a crystal clear picture of same.

I SALUTE YOU!

Happy trails and happy camping. I hope our paths cross sometime in the future.

Forrest, this is a hard one, and I certainly understand and sympathize!

The problem with the WBCCI has, it seems to me, always been its dual nature: We wouldn't be members if it weren't about our Airstreams. However, we also wouldn't be members if it weren't for the people. Similarly, we find people who walk away from the club precisely because they don't like the unit they chose. Likewise, we also find people willing to raise Cain when proposals are made to do away with the Airstream-only requirement. Neither side of the club's dual nature can be ignored. It's a balance, but not an impossible one.

Maria and I will surely miss seeing you and Patrice at rallies. It's my hope that you'll take advantage of every opportunity join us and other DenCo members just the same. (And if you should decide to join us down here in Angel Fire, rest assured that your discount will continue just the same!)

Forest.
Thanks for the effort you and your compatriots have expended on behalf of the General membership.
Your reflections on the Amendment, Constitution and structure of the Club have reinforced my perception that the New Constitution is, for lack of a better term, a Bait and Switch.
I'm now convinced a NO vote is the correct choice.
Good luck and happy ‘Streaming without all the excess baggage.

Tom.

Forrest, I just had to compliment you on your post. It was classy - well-reasoned, no-name-calling, informative. Thanks for that; this course of events must be very frustrating for you.

Forrest,

Nice explanation of the circumstances and reasoning leading to your decision. We'll see you and Pat at the 3rd Annual TCT Enchanted Encampment Rally in May!

Seems that Airstreamers would like an airstreamers club for airstreamers. Not necessarily an IBT club or MySOBisBiggerthanYours club. Hmm, is there a way to cut out the IBT bunch and retain the Forrests?
and no, my checkbook has not sent the renewal yet.

Right now there are more people outside the VAC that would join an independent VAC type club than there are inside the VAC. It's just a matter of time. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if a whole bunch of past wbcci VAC leaders aren't already making plans for an independent vintage club....
Sign me up!!!

Forrest, too cool, dude. See you in Airstream Life...

I personally would love to see the VAC break-off, I'd send in my past dues now if that was the case. One has to ask, is the WBCCI dragging down the VAC or is the VAC helping to hold up the WBCCI?

I understand Forrest leaving and will be right behind him at the end off this year from the looks of it.

One does not need the WBCCI to have a good time. I know we already have a 7-10 day caravan of vintage trailers planned up historic Rt. 11 from Bristol, TN to 1000 Island, NY without the help or rules of the WBCCI in mid-late June.

Something I think you all should know - I'm not tring to support one side or another by saying this - the WBCCI or any club that anyone forms will be exempt from taxes under IRS code 501(c)(7) - which by code definition is a social club....

Again - I don't want to stir the pot - just provide some information for this discussion that I do think is relavent in going forward.

Forrest's effort to enable change was the mightiest yet and obviously the most threatening to the status quo. As a 15 year and out member who witnessed first hand the treatment of the VAC by successive IBT's which looked askance at us as if we were roaches, or something to be kept under the stairs, it is no surprise to me that he came to this difficult conclusion and decsion. I'm also certain that Rick Davis well recalls his time as VAC President when we waited for nearly half a day to hear from the IBT if we could even enter the International Rally.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the Rick Davis (of Tennessee) in post # 35 this thread is NOT the same Rick Davis that was VAC President awhile back. If in fact that was who you were referring to.

You are hereby corrected. In fact, if you will go back to post #35 you will note that Rick lists his VAC past president status in his signature block.

The Rick Davis in post 35 is the same one that is was VAC prez for the Burlington, VT rally in 2003.

My recollection of the parking fiasco there was not a problem with the IBT but rather an overloaded parker situation due to a couple incoming caravans arriving late. None the less we were all left sitting for quite a long time before we were able to leave the school ground.

So far as I know I am the only Rick Davis in the club.
There was another one here in Jamestown and it did get interesting when he died a few years ago

Distantdrummer,

Rick Davis 1602 TAC TN-2 K8DOC
PP VAC 2002-03
61 tradewind, 70 Globetrotter
69 Ambassador 64 Overlander

The "PP VAC" mean "Past Prez Vintage Airstream Club".

Hunt was right.

By the way Rick, that was my first International Rally, I had a ball, lots of fun park over in the back.
