1960 sotr wbcci # 4068
Hi, I’m currently restoring a 1960 Sovereign of the Road that has the ghost numbers 4068. Any help or advice in finding out some history on the lady would be most appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
WBCCI #4068 was first assigned in 1960, so there is a good chance it is original to your 1960 Sovereign. Here is how #4068 has been assigned over the years according to WBCCI Membership Directories:
- 1960-1968: Kenneth (son) & Edith (mother) Donnan, Breckenridge, MI, no caravans (1967-68 Kenneth only).
- 1969: Unassigned.
- 1970-72: G. A. & Thelma Robillard, Santa Cruz, CA (1970), Soqeuel, CA (1972), no caravans.
- 1973-74: Unassigned.
- 1975-80: Preston & Mildred Brown, Los Altos, CA, no caravans (Preston only in 1980).
- 1981-86: Unassigned.
- 1987-91: Curtis & Jackie McCleskey, Imperial Beach, CA, no caravans.
- 1992-93: Unassigned.
- 1994-98: Richard & JoAnn Gidel, Williams, IA, no caravans.
- 1999: Unassigned. Did not check further due to privacy concerns.
Since you are in Florida and no previous assignees of #4068 are from Florida, and quite frankly none are from anywhere near Florida, it is hard to make a guess. If the numbers look really old and faded, and since you have an Ohio built 1960 Sovereign, I will guess that the Donnan's were the original owners and likely none of the other couples assigned #4068 were ever owners of your trailer. Given the distances involved and the unassigned years in between, it seems most likely that the other assignees were simply assigned an unused number when they joined the club with some other Airstream. That's all I got. Have fun with your 1960 Sovereign of the Road.

To Joe: I can’t thank you enough! I found one of the original owners on a public ancestry website and am waiting to see if he’ll answer my email to him. I sure would love some old photos!

Joe,
From a thread on the Trade Wind forum...
I have a 1967 Trade Wind. I first saw it in western Pennsylvania about 11 years ago, but decided against purchasing at the time. The couple who owned it believed it had been at a campground in West Virginia for many years. The holes that had been drilled in the roof just above the awning track and line of roofing tar suggested it had a permanent roof attached. A year or so later, it showed up on Ebay, listed by a different owner in central Pennsylvania.
The WBCCI number was 22831.
Any information you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Wanting to see if I can get any information on 27960? I have a 1966 Overlander that belong to my Grandparents. I know they bought it from someone else sometime in the 70's or very early 80's. I am just wondering if they were the WBCCI members or the previous owners. My grandad's name was Aswell James Walker and he lived in Texas at the time.

WBCCI# 21632? Any info in directory?
Howdy,
We are the proud new owners of a 1975 Excella-500 31 ft. The number on it is # 21632 and we bought it in Texas from someone who bought it in Oklahoma. That's all we know, wondering if there are any more details out there about it!
Thanks,
Tanya & Chuck
Austin, TX
PS. wondering if the number is available or still attached to previous owner?

1958 18 foot Traveler
When the time permits, a history of my 1958 Traveler I am restoring would be much appreciated. Its WBCCI number is 3397, serial number 4019, manufactured in Norwalk, CA. Also, is the number active?
I am performing a frame off restoration.
Everything is new from the floor down except for the C3x frame rails, front hitch, rear bumper and leaf springs (which were in turn rebuilt). Everything is re-built exactly as the original except for the 3" drop in the center section of the frame to allow for modern tanks along with an underslung axle with drop to allow for the 3" dropped section. I am waiting for a snowy day to write up my last years work.

I have a little different request for a number look-up than I have seen on this forum. Granted, I did not look through all 1,100 posts. I would like to find an early 70's Land Yacht (I think) that my parents owned. They were original owners and lived in South Carolina. The Big Red Number is 24706. I'd like to know if the unit is still in service? If so, would the current owner be interested in selling it, for sentimental reasons? All I can find on it are some photos from the the 70's, pictures taken from rally's, etc. Any purchase or sale invoice with a vin number is long gone as they both have been deceased for 20+ years. A long shot, I know. But any help would be appreciated.

The club (WBCCI) did not keep records of the serial numbers of Airstreams owned by club members, so there is no way the Big Red Number can be used to help you find the Airstream your parents used to own. Sorry.
If you have a photo of the license plate, perhaps the state might still have a record of the serial number it was assigned to. If you get that, maybe there is a way to see if that serial number is currently registered to someone. It might take a friend in law enforcement to help with such a request.

WBCCI member numbers stay with the member, not with the trailer. So once your parents let the trailer go, if another member when it, it would have a different number on it. Good luck...

Thanks guys. Obviously I was getting the WBCCI number confused with the unit serial number. It all makes sense now.

Duh. That last line should read "...if another member bought it, it would have a different number on it." Sorry.

Purchased an old trailer and am hoping to learn a bit about it. Especially the first owners.
WBCCI # is 3311 and it is a 22 foot 1960 Safari. What is cool is that it has a fold down bunk over one of the twins.
Also curious to know if 3311 is taken or a free number. Be nice to have the old number on it when I re join the WBCCI and the Four Corners Unit. (Unless they remember me from before and won't let me back in the the FCU.)

WBCCI #13387 was first assigned by WBCCI in 1965, but we only need concern ourselves from 1974 onward in your case. here is how 13387 has been assigned over the years since 1974 according to WBCCI Membership Directories:
- 1968-80: Keith & Ruth Ellinwood, South Lima, NY (1980 Ruth only), no caravans.
- 1981-83: Unassigned.
- 1984-99: Frank & Frances Musgrove, Columbus, OH, caravans:
- 158 - Eastern Canada Summer 1985
- 163 - Western Canada Summer 1986
- 190 - Adventure to Alaska 1990
- 2000+ Unassigned, bit only spot checked a few directories.
It is hard to guess whether the Ellinwoods could have upgraded from and earlier Airstream to your 1974 Tradewind in or after 1974 or if the Musgroves were the more likely prior owner. Perhaps some paperwork you got with the trailer might point you toward either couple or maybe a dealer decal or emblem on the trailer point toward a prior owner in NY or Ohio.
If such information points toward the Musgroves being the most likely prior owner, it is possible they took your Tradewind on some or all of the their three caravans. That's all I got. Make some memories of your own in your Tradewind!

This is my last reply for the night, because I answered several similar requests in another thread before getting to this request. I'll answer more when I get more free time. I always answer in the order the requests were posted. Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Wayne, I answered in the other thread before I saw that you (at my request) restated your request in this thread. Thanks for following my suggestion.
