Turns out 7246 was available and we got it! Cool - for me anyhow - to be touring the US with the same numbers my aunt and uncle did in the early 60s. Also going to join Texas Hill Country Unit as associate members. We did join Michigan Unit as full members as well. Got to say, this is great stuff. Don't know whether we'll do any Rally's - Caravans are probably out, we're fairly set in our travel ways - but connecting with other Airstreamers on a serendipitous basis will be a blast!

Being so impressed with the WBCCI number indicating the first EB of 2015…. I had to post something about my WBCCI number….
In 2010, when I sold my 2009 Int 27FB to go to an SOB (Tiffin Allegro Bus), I had WBCCI #4056. Of course, once I no longer owned an Airstream, I had to cancel the International in Gillette, and drop out of the WBCCI.
About six months ago, after 50,000 miles in the Allegro Bus, I sold it and ordered a new Serenity 30RB. I do not know if this was the first one or not, but, it was finished on June 11.
So, once I had the VIN, I could rejoin WBCCI. My "new" number is #4065.

50 years from now, somebody will be scratching their heads wondering why your numbers flopped. Pretty neat.

Looks like the WBCCI numbers are up into the 32,000 range; but not consecutive !

As it was explained to me, once a member does not renew, the number goes back into the pool. So my number, initially 4156, just happened to come up 4165 when I renewed after about four years. However, as humans are doing this by hand, it is entirely possible they decided to give me a number close to my original. Thank you to whomever did this. I love "coincidences" LOL
Maybe this is what I like about WBCCI, it is sort of like a family.
One note on number placement. Now that trailers can have a rear camera installed, there is not room to install the numbers in the center. Thus, my rear numbers are on the road side, the WBCCI sticker on the curb side.

What they told me this summer was that they would hold the number for you during one renewing cycle and then put that number back into the pool. WBCCI headquarters transposed our last two digits (as might be the case for yours) when we renewed; I called them and they said that we could have any not currently issued number. So, we asked about 20151 and it was available.

Anyone know about #16136??
Just curious if anyone has info on the Overlander we got last spring with the #16136 on it. I know it was last registered in Missouri but I wonder what tales it could tell us. If you have some info, I would really like to know. Thanks.

16136 is not listed in the 1966 directory. My next directory is 1976. 16136 is listed to Robert & Frances Patterson from Houston, Tx.

Anyone know who has 2616? I'd love to have the original numbers back on - I have 2614 - I'll trade!
Also, are the numbers used still aluminum? These seem different.
Thanks,
Rob.

FYI This past week, I drove from Iowa to Texas and back and saw a TOTAL of 7 Airstreams and ! Argosy. THERE WERE NO NUMBERS ON ANY OF THEM. That was 2400 miles. ???? Is there a message here?

Yes, this has been my experience as well. IMO, almost every Airstream owner should be a WBCCI member. However, the issue of cost in today's world, the idea of exclusivity in not allowing SOB owners an associate membership, the active process of member attraction, and potentially a need for reworking the organization may be factors.
An example, although I had a receipt showing a $50,000 downpayment on a 2015 Airstream, until I had a VIN, I was not allowed to join. For certain, this is not what I would consider presenting an attractive face for those who are considering joining.
I am a member of an international automobile club, and the dues are much lower, the magazine is full color, glossy, and the activity level is almost a daily list. I am wondering where the WBCCI dues are used. In spite of some questions, I am very happy and honored to be a WBCCI member, and have stated that any group which says the blessings before the meal and says the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag cannot be all bad… LOL. And, I do understand if I am to do anything about what may be a potential problem, it is my responsibility to volunteer….. did I say volunteer?

Someone once had the slogan "what's in a name".
could it be that the name Wally Byam Caravan Club International is what is limiting membership? If one was to look at the Blue Beret, most of what is published is about caravans and NOT camping in general.
When we bought our first AS, we did NOT join because we were not interested in caravans, we camped. Our first exposure was a rally where we found out more about the club.
Maybe it is time to change the name of the club to "Wally Byam Airstream Club" and have more "buddy" rallies. Buddy rallies could also be non AS owners as well.
More members could mean lesser dues.
The terms of "Tradition" and "that is the way we always have done it" has got to go.

I am certainly in agreement that "tradition" is very attractive. My concern is in how tradition and adaptation to the demands of today's economy are being dealt with. I am also in an historical club which is failing rapidly as it attracts only older folks who remember the railways we used to travel on.
The changing times must be dealt with or we might find ourselves with problems which engulf us. And when these become large enough, the collapse of an organization occurs rapidly. This is something I do not want to see. One reason I sold my moho and purchased another Airstream is the WBCCI and the folks who maintain the "tradition".
I display my WBCCI number on the trailer as close as I can to the instructions…… in spite of a recommendation to not put it one the aluminum as it leaves a footprint when one wants to remove it when trading trailers. (Not in my future, LOL) But, the adaptation to the placement of numbers is also to be dealt with,,, the new rear view camera on the trailer is in the middle, preventing the numbers being mounted as instructed. Thus:
WBCCI_Mayberry_10.03.2014 by Fantinesvoice.com, on Flickr
As I become more familiar with WBCCI, attend more rallies, I may become involved in something other than taking photos. I certain want to do what I can to help the WBCCI continue on for at least several years….for all of us.
