HowieE, you gimlet-eyed legal eagle, you are on to something!

Your statement sent me scurrying to re-read the fine print restrictions on page 2 of the directory.

These clearly enumerate three entities permitted to use the directory information:

1. any member

2. the Wally Byam Caravan Club, and

3. any licensee of the foregoing, where such license appears in writing signed by an appropriate official of any of the foregoing entities.

Note the unequivocal wording of the 3rd item, an “official of any of the foregoing entities”. The use of the plural, "entities" and the word "any make it clear that it to apply to both of the foregoing entities, namely, any member, and the club.

Since you are obviously “an appropriate official” of yourself, a member, you can certainly sign a license for a third party (for example, defendwally.org) to use the information in the directory!

Yes and after the next MASS E MAILING directed towards the "mere members" of the Club from Defendwally you will be chief consultant and head researcher with regard to the defense of the use of said directory information.

It seams the Leadership either can't read, has had poor legal input, or as in most cases have just made up their own interpretation on said use. My guess, just to be kind to them is the latter.

But no matter which they will just continue to expend monies, in the form of cease and desist orders, in a vain attempt to halt anyone that questions or acts against their wisdom.

May I Suggest A Change?

I'd like two ribbons. I'll send a PM with the mailing information.

Would it be possible to use the E in Reinstate and the E of Leo to make an upside down T? You could also use the first E in reinstate and combine that with Leo but that would look like a cross and might infer something else.

Just a thought.

Yes, I see what you mean. It would make it somewhat more "trademark-like" or "logo-like" than the simple text. On the downside, the cuteness factor might tend to dilute the message.

However the main thing is that I had a bunch of them made in the hope they would be a popular way to express discontent over the dictatorial way the WBCCI is being run. (Also to get well down the volume pricing curve). So I won't be changing the design until the first batch is used up.

But, requests are continuing apace, so the initial production batch is going to be used up, most likely well before International. At some point I will need to order more.

Hmmm. . .let's see. . . roughly 5,000 active WBCCI members at an average of two people per membership would be 10,000 ribbons. . .

Frank, we are so glad for you to be a charter member of TAC but would you please stop heckling those interested in the WBCCI? It's rather spoiled sportmanship of you.

While wearing the "reinstate Leo" ribbon did start a few conversations, unfortunately Frank makes a valid point. Not one of the folks who asked about the ribbon had any idea who Leo is. It seems most members have no idea what is going on. At least a few more know after this past week end.
Of course the TN unit rubber stamped the list of nominees with only one dissenting vote. I guess you can't blame them when there are no other known candidates at this time

Rick, Thank you for understanding my point. It was not intended as heckling as much as making statement about the IBT's point of view.

Well, that's precisely the point of this project. The EC7 has control of the main line of communication to most members--the Blue Beret--and never is going to be heard a discouraging word. That is an order.

The hoped-for effect of the ribbons is two fold:

1. Make members who have no idea what is going on ask that question, "Who's Leo?" and hear the story. Hopefully some of them will be sufficiently exercised about it to get a ribbon themselves.

2. Give every member of the IBT's ulcer a little twinge every time they see one. They need to know that this kind of thing is not appreciated by many of the members.

Question

Hey folks don't mean to rain on your parade.

Consider the following.

I'm 99.999% certain the lawsuit will reinstate Leo.
The blatant disregard of the bylaws mandate it.

Now that the Lawsuit is in fact moving forward perhaps something along the lines of support DefendWally save the WBCCI may be more appropriate.

.

Both the ribbons and the lawsuit have their purposes. Both are means of communication.

The ribbons serve to inform members who are unaware of the issue (which is most of them) and to send a message to the Executive Committee that their action was not without its political cost.

The lawsuit is also a means of communication, "hitting the mule up 'side the head with a 2 x 4 to get his attention".

The ribbons are less expensive and are already in circulation. They are showing up at unit and region rallies and are being noticed. The lawsuit will certainly be noticed, but I doubt it will be filed till after the International, less than two months away.

The attached photos shows un-named ribbon wearers at a clandestine meeting at an undisclosed location, no doubt emailed to me from an anonymous server off the coast of Africa.

However, in support of the Defend Wally lawsuit, effective immediately, all profits from the sale of the ribbons will be donated to defendwally.org
