Provisional Charter Granted To Fcu!!!
I am pleased to annouce that the Four Corners Unit has been granted a provisional charter. What this means is we can act as an official unit until full charter is given to us at the IBT.
I think this is great news for many reasons - first it is great for us who have wanted to see this happen and second to me it shows that the WBCCI is willing to look at ways to grow its membership.
With all that is going on in the WBCCI I have asked myself why I want to be part of this organization - the reasons are several
1. When I bought my first Airstream I wanted to meet new friends of similar interests and go camping
2. The traditions that Wally established - a camping club
3. The need for a legal entity to hold rallies
4. A club that has been around a long long time
5. The memories that many have from a long long time ago
I'm sure there are many others that can be added to the list - the FCU has basically one goal - to go camping, have some fun and keep things very simple. As a side note we will use the internet to do the limited business that needs to be done.
So if you are looking to be part of the WBCCI (or are a member at large) and have not found what you are looking for, we welcome you to the

Great news!
This is wonderful news! Please tell us more about what actually happened. So far the sequence of events seems to have been,
1. Region rejected provisional charter because First Vice President decided there was no compelling reason to create another unit.
2. IBT reassured charter members that full charter application would be looked upon favorably at winter IBT.
3. Charter application withdrawn at winter IBT because name does not meet requirement of inclusion of a state name.
4. Now Region has decided to grant a provisional charter?
I agree that this is a wonderful thing--but what caused Region about-face?
And, is FCU going to add a state name in order to get a full charter at next International?
Best,
Nuvi

Congrats!
All I can say is....
It's About Time!
Seriously, I hear the sound of bottles popping corks, smell ribs cooking on the grill, hear the sound of laughter, and the pitter-patter of little feet and...
No, wait. THAT is the Casinni Ranch rally group.
Anyway...CONGRATUATIONS on this significant milestone.

To answer your questions...
1. It is true that we were turned down because Regional 11 did not see the reason for another unit at that time.
2. I'm not sure that is entirely true - we were told to submit directly to the IBT at the winter meeting - and we had a lot of support to do so.
3. That is true among other things - there was concern that our charter had not been reviewed by the bi-laws committee - the motion was withdrawn with a committment for the Region 11 President to work with us.
4. I don't know if its an about face as much as the WBCCI is recognizing (finally) that the membership is declining. Also the IBT felt it would be better to go through the process of Provisional status first to make sure everything was in order for full charter - I can understand that.
Personally, I think the WBCCI should do everything it can to encourage new units to form - lets face it we are all unique, have different interests and for the WBCCI to grow we need to attract new membership. I am very active in Boy Scouts of America and we go out of our way to form new units - I know the WBCCI is not BSA, but to my thinking we need to look outside the WBCCI and see what makes others successful.
The WBCCI is far from getting its act together, but I think the acceptence of new units is a great first step and I do think this is a really huge positive step they are taking.

YIPEEE! Thank you! This is exciting. I think a lot of members will be proud to support your unit. Wonder what unit has the highest number of associate memberships. Let's show 'em some real big numbers when they go back to review the charter!

Looking at numbers...
Kens et al -
A HUGE congrats to you and the folks that kept this from sliding off into the weeds.... Great work!!
Thinking back to a comment made above, about numbers.... since I am a member of the NM unit, can I (for an additional fee) going another unit ( the FCU) so that my allegience can be properly reflected?? Or how can I work this since I ultimately want the FCU to have my $'s?? Full change over will naturally be next year at renewal time, but I want to be seen as supporting FCU NOW!!!
Thanks for any and all input.
Axel
