Pensacola Unit vs. Big Bend Tallahasse Unit

Anyone here from either of these Units? I'm trying to decide which group to join. I know I am closer to Pensacola, however I also know that some locals prefer to join the Big Bend Unit.

All I know so far is that the Pensacola Unit meets at their own Park, whereas the BBU varies where they go.

Can anyone give me more info on each unit? Are there other Vintage Owners in each group?

Also, can I join WBCCI before I choose a local Unit?

Thanks for all input!
Colleen

Hello Neighbor!

Are you a WBCCI member that has not joined a Unit? Do you still get together with other Airstream Owners?

Colleen,

PM jbond on this forum, he is a member of the Pensacola unit, a vintage owner and soon to be 1st VP of VAC.

You can join as a MAL (member at large) and check out different units to find one that fits for you.

Most people who joins our unit, instead of Pensacola, do it because we camp in different campgrounds for each rally. I would suggest that you select a couple of Pensacola Unit Rallies and a couple with us to see which one you enjoy best. If you wish, I will send you some of our rally sites so you can check us out. If you need any other information, just let me know.

From Navarre here, I attended the Vintage Airstream Rally hosted by Pensacola Club. The park is very nice and the people were very friendly. Can't say anything good or bad on the Big Bend people, but the Pensacola Club made me feel welcome, and I look forward to spending time there again. That's the one I will most likely join.

We live in Santa Rosa Beach, just east of Destin. We were WBCCI Memebers at Large for about a year, and then joined the Four Corners Unit out in New Mexico so that our voice could be heard in the national club.

We are very active Airstreamers (140+ nights in the last year) and travelers, but we are not big on organized club activities. We prefer camping on our own, but are not anti-social either.

We have attended both Forums and WBCCI rallies, and prefer the Forums Rallies. They are not as formal, which we prefer.

We are not members but I would highly recommend you contacting jbond, we met him at a forums rally last year and he is great and his better half also. Great folks in every way. You will just love his trailers, not to mention the vintage tows. Also be sure to check out the Can Opener forums rally in January 08, they have not announced it yet but 07 was a blast. It will be at Top Sail Park.

Thanks for all of your input! I went ahead and joined WBCCI as a "MAL". My poor, little camper isn't useable yet, but I hope to meet folks from both Units. I wrote to "jbond", and he does seem nice, and could probably give me lots of info.
Thank you!
Colleen

We were MALs the first year or so, but joined our local unit because it made no sense to give the unit dues to International.

After not hearing a thing from the local unit for 4 years, we'd wished we'd just joined the Pensacola unit even though we may never realize our dream of retiring down there in my home town. So we did join Pensacola and we hear from them more every month than we did in the old unit the entire four years.

Why would someone in Ohio join the Pensacola unit? Because they are friendly folks who care for and maintain a beautiful Airstream park we hope is still there for many years. Pensacola has a rally a month where the local unit has a breakfast during office hours during the work week and it's just too bad if you can't join them... cause that's the way they've always done it.

RoadKingMoe, Thanks for your input! That's very interesting. It sounds like the P'cola Unit is more like an extended (camping) family. I hope you'll get to retire down here!

The Pensacola Unit is just a great group of people who will welcome you with a hug and a handshake. If you don't feel welcome there I just don't know what to tell you. Mystic Springs is a very friendly place in a great part of The USA. We spent 3 weeks there in 2012 and became associate members of the unit. I gaurantee you would not be disapointed. Sal

Pssst...while I'm sure the welcome to 'gypsymoth' is well warranted, it may be a little late. Colleen hasn't logged in on AirForums since 12/14/2008.

FWIW, we know several folks from the Pensacola Unit and they are very vintage rig friendly ~
