I couldn't resist the temptation to get in early before passion levels rise...
I'm on record as supporting the notion that WBCCI ought not to have a variety of classes of membership.. Just "Members.." Units have a place and a value proposition, but I feel (remember--- feelings shouldn't be declared right or wrong..) that Airstream-loving members may have a variety of reasons (valid for them) not to participate in their local unit events, and should not be treated (or regarded..) less well because of that decision... I further feel that (were he alive today..) Wally would embrace electronic communications and a wide variety of modes of enjoyment for his beloved travel trailers... He might even abandon his "bullhorn" for IM'ing and text messaging..
Will be tuning in for the fireworks....

Wally showed an ability to make good use of the technology of his day, and if he were here today, I see no reason to think he would do any different. An inclusive policy it seems would have to use 1m1v.
I am not a member, and some may say that I shouldn't voice an opinion, and I can understand that. The poll here in this thread does include those in my situation.
I have been observing various issues affecting the club, and how they react to these issues. My decision regarding applying for membership will take this information, and the attitudes reflected, into account.

Yes on 1M1V
As a MAL it seems the only way I would get a vote. It's a no brainer for me.

I have also checked in several times, but have noticed when I do, it does not increase the # of views. That includes even when I close the browser between views.

The poll shows that support for 1M/1V is twice as high among unit members, compared to MALs.

That's one way to look at it, but since the number of MALs is a low percentage in the WBCCI I would expect the Unit Members to cast more votes. Remember this is not a scientific poll, margin for error is ??%.

Very valid point. I posted it to hopefully consolidate positions on the issue in one easy to view place.

Jack, I don't know the situation with your local unit, but after not hearing from ours for a couple of years, and with them never changing their meetings to other than work days, we made the same decision last year not to renew in WBCCI. We'd been MALs before that, but let ourselves be talked into joining a unit at a region rally. At the last minute last year, we changed our mind and renewed to maintain access to WBCCI parks.
This year, we renewed with the Pensacola unit (my home town) because we hope to retire down there some day and want to help them continue Mystic Springs park. In retrospect, we should've done it years ago, and would rather give them the unit fee than give it to WBCCI as a MAL.
I'm sure you've thought this through, but I'll just offer you certainly aren't the only one making that decision.

Jack,
Hate to see ya go. I would like the chance to talk you into staying and joining the WDCU. We have members all over the USA, all biz/voting are done online. Our age group is the following, 30% 35-50yrs, 40% 50-65yrs, 30 over 65yrs. We have rallies up and down the east coast. Matt Worner in NM is talking about having a WDCU rally out west. Over the past couple of months, we've had a bunch of people join from the left coast, from CA, CO, NM, OR, TX and AZ. I will even make this offer. If you pay your WBCCI dues, I'll pay your WDCU Unit dues (There only $1.00). Who knows, maybe we could have a WDCU West Coast Sub-Unit. Well, what ya say?? Please!!

Well I did the local unit's web site and I served as a trustee. Bottom line with the job here at the Convention Center, my rally time has been severely limited. Secondly we attempted to do some informal rallies last year. One I sponsored and the other was done by another forums member who also is a member of the unit. Bottom line both had miserable attendance. The exisitng membership obviously wants to stay traditional and at this point most of the new members that joined during my 4 years quit after their first year. Bottom line they have lost membership, and the local unit continues its decline. Unless things change I truly expect that the unit will fail within the next 5-10 years.
Yes there are a few folks who are unhappy that I'm leaving but I just don't have the time to devote. I don't go to the International, I don't caravan, and I've only done two rallies this year with the unit both of which were the informal ones. I can put my dues towards something that will give me more enjoyment.
Who knows I may come back, but to be honest, losses of members will change WBCCI....one way or the other. I just don't want the bulk of my $$ funding the International as it runs today.
