Or you could say newly chartered territory. I think it makes much more sense to start up a new unit than to try to make change in an older unit, especially if you've got a new group of people with fresh new ideas like this one.

On the constitution for a new unit, I would suggest starting with one that has already been approved for one of the newer units that is closest to the kind of unit you want to make. For example, if you want to do most of your units business by internet, mail, phone etc. and save rallies for, well, rallying (duh!), then you could borrow the WDCU's or maybe the FCU's (do they operate that way? don't remember) constitution and work from there. No use re-reinventing the wheel.

Good luck with this!

A reminder

While you guys are in Casini don't forget to discuss the idea of a new unit.

Also think of who would make good officers.

We have a statewide group to draw from.

I do not have the people skills for that job.

I can do a lot of the setting up with help but leadership roles take a people person. I, as you know am a grumpy hermit.

Rules?

Bigdee,

Seems to me that a Unit only has to follow the rules it chooses to enforce. There is not a Wally PD that goes out searching for violaters that I am aware of.

So under that premise Every rally is a buddy rally and the first person that tries to ban Margi balls or start a business meeting while camping may be shot by the other members or the official rally greeter.

Jokes aside there is nothing that keeps a Unit from being what it wants to be.

I am sure the WBCCI would not like a unit disregarding their rules and making their own. Probally the unit would face sanctions and possibly ejection.

My question is unanswered. Why does the NorCal group need the WBCCI at $60 a year? The only reason I can think of is to honor Wally. Well we can honor him in other ways without the WBCCI rules.

A unit should be free to decide how it wants to conduct itself. But to charter a unit with WBCCI means you have to put together a governing documents (constitution and the like). Those have to be approved. But I do know that units like the SNU pretty much run on a de-facto buddy rally because they have had non airstreams at practically every rally we ever went to.

I think that any unit shut down for operating outside the WBCCI rules would be like a nail in the coffin of the WBCCI. I already know that there are units out there that live it up NorCal style and they aren't getting kicked out!

I do have an answer as to why join the WBCCI when you can save the $$$ and just rally where you want... For us it is purely for the history and love of Airstreaming. And to me, despite the horrors the IBT is putting down on this club the WBCCI is worth saving and worth turning into the sort of club it should be. However, I know that is not for everybody and I respect that. That is why, if a new unit were to form, I would like to see that it is as open, friendly and fun as the Casini Ranch rally was.
