Pick the scenario you prefer.

1, Form a Unit.

2, Join en masse a Unit on its last leg.

We would have to step up and run for office.

Results would be the same in a year or two.

Which do you prefer?

I think we should start our own unit. It doesn't seem right to jump in on someone else's. There may or may not be people currently involved who would not appreciate a "take over".

We probably have enough people to start a new unit already. Is there really that much work involved once the initial paperwork is taken care of? The new group would likely be more casual and less "officious."

After thinking about it last night and today, I tend to agree with Laurel. Although the folks in a dying unit may not look like they are having fun to us. They may really enjoy the strict, business like atmosphere. I would hate to be a part of running people off because they thought we were too "rowdy". Don't get me wrong, I like the group of folks that we seem to attact, but if it's not for everybody, let's start our own. I guess the main question that occurs to me is: why? Do we need it? But I'm easy. If you guys are in, we don't want to be left out. Ron

Yes I believe it would be bad Karma to run them off. To answer your questions with my opinions, I think we do need another unit. Why? Well, some of us joined the WBCCI to help support the whole Wally concept of camping and having fun; kinda got a hoot out of the idea of belonging to the WBCCI. However, for the same reasons as you stated why we shouldn't run them out, is keeping me from feeling "accepted" as a unit member. Others have found similiar issues in their units. I would like to be a member in an official WBCCI with other like minded people. I think it would be very cool to be able to attract larger crowds because it is a sanctioned rally. We'll attract the new blood who were put off by some of the less than welcoming other units, you know, breathe new life into the whole Wally World experience. Yes we could have a wonderful time without this, meet and make wonderful friends, as I feel I have done so far, but wouldn't it be cool to be official too?

I just think everyone should feel welcomed when attending rallies, as our forum rallies have proven to be. If Kevbo is willing to join, he could be the official greeter of an official unit. We shouldn't feel put out because of our age, energy level or the desire to do nothing but enjoy life and camping with other like minded people who are pleasant to be around with.

Ok, off my soap box now. I must be leaving for school. lol

Soapbox?

I'm halfway between Ron and Ms. Goin Campin... Have thought about it for a while, and not sure we need "A new Unit" unless someone outlaws our Forum Rallies... I tell my non-Airstream friends we belong to both "The Wally Club" and "The Airstream Outlaws." (Forums groups..). I consider the constitution and officer duties and bylaws to be a little off-putting, though the 4CU group has provided some inspiration, and maybe we could just "adapt" theirs...

I do know our local Unit would resist any form of takeover, as the 7 members of 38 in the Unit who attend all the Rallies in local fairgrounds love things exactly the way they are, and would not welcome change or change agents... Maybe one would, and we should see if someone who is internet-enabled and in a Unit looking for change in Region 12 steps forward... Again, only a handful in our unit are computer-enabled, and all communication and business is handled by mailed newsletters and at the Thursday through Sunday Rallies in person... Any volunteers for the "Greater San Fernando Unit" encompassing a larger geography?

OK Mr. 1000 otherwise known as Goin camping

How about CalNeva in honor of the original rat packer, Frank Sinatra? Or another interpretation for CalNeva is the obvious.

How many of you would commit to being a part of a new Unit?

My concept of this Unit is rather loose.

Handle business by E-mail and webpage.

Camp all over the place.

Low priced dues.

No NotreallyaRally, Rally or Convention is legit unless there is a M-Ball present.

A NorCal Rally with red numbers where those like us who don't fit comfortably into their local Units can come and have a good time with fun people.

Any other ideas?

I like the CalCoast name. We could make a killer logo for that one. Surf, Palm trees and a setting sun.

Milo: I'm thinkin', after all of the wine and the M'ball, we can probably get 15 or 20 members out of Casini.

No kidding. Probably be better if everyone thought it's a good idea when sober.

Congrats new Rivet Masters. Woo AND hoo.

*tosses confetti in the air*

You may now (officially) bring your rubber chicken and hats. But don't hold out for the big bonus check. I'm still waiting and I'm now a rivet mastermaster.

I like CalCoast too.

There has been a pattern for the last few NorBiSoCal rallies of inclusiveness, flexibility, and a casual format...if you can call it that. It seems that those who have participated really enjoy the easy going and casual atmosphere and would make a nice core group to get things started for a new unit. Everyone is very welcoming and encouraging and I would imagine that the unit would be constantly expanding. And as evidenced by the laptop fest at the 'bu campfire circle, conducting business on line would be preferred.

Are there any real problems with doing this???
