New name for WBCCI - Poll
I read with interest, the article in the August issue of the Blue Beret regarding possible name changes for WBCCI. Suggestions are being solicited for a new name to include the word "Airstream".
So here's your chance - vote for one or more or add an original.

The poll may be more statistically accurate if "none of the above" was one of the choices.

You are probably right - but you can still post an alternative as a response.
I've just forwarded this link to the person listed as a contact for input in the Blue Beret article.

I voted for the Wally Byam Airstream Club International. Only one letter in the initials to change...

Wally Byam Airstream Club
Because it: a) keeps a tie to the past with Wally Byam's name in it
b) describes the club better that the word 'caravan', many of us have never caravaned in the true sense of the word, but are VERY involved in the club
c) don't need the word 'International' as most everything is these days, unlike in the beginning
You would be surprised at the heated debates that took place at the delegates meeting regarding this issue...pros & cons for changing the name at all.

When people ask me what the big red number are for, I say "the Airstream Club", so that's my choice. I like things simple.

Be careful what you cut out. If you did that, you would belong to the "A------" Club".

Yeah, I voted for Airstream Owners Assn, too, but that wasn't my first choice. It's really tough for several reasons:
1. It's good to use the term "Airstream." I suspect that the Airstream company will have less to be concerned about in this case.
2. It's hard to drop "Wally Byam" for obvious reasons, yet it's also true that it does little for name recognition among non-Airstreamers.
3. I'm ambivalent about terms like "caravan." Why not "rally"?
4. I'm against using "RV" in the title. "Airstream" already has the name recognition, so it just seems unnecessary to clutter the title with more verbage.
5. I'd prefer a title that has the capacity to be shortened for use in casual speech or writing.
I faced a similar dilemma in naming when I was working on a site for one of the units. In the end, I put "The Airstream RV Association of New Mexico, WBCCI, Region 11" into the title, and added, "This is the website of the New Mexico Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI), the country's oldest and finest RV association" for the first sentence of the main page. Cop-out, I guess.

Though I didn't vote, I liked:
The Airstream Owners Association --- The AOA
I guess I feel there are more important things to deal with than changing a name. I know that some may disagree, but I just can't help but feel that energy is being wasted on some of the smaller stuff, when there are so many big things to deal with.

I don't like it at all, at all, at all. So much wasted butt ..... In five years they'll be making cheap white boxes with "AIRSTREAM" on them and they'll want them in the club for using "their" name. They being the guys who raised hell about the decals.
WBCCI is a silly name, but it's got history. Who comes up with this stuff.?

gotta give wally his propers!
hi all
i'm sittin' in the the tube, parked on excella lane at the mothership in jc.
having some work done tomorrow.....free wireless in the terra port.....cool!
i'll be stopping by the wbbci office tomorrow.
i always wonder about the polls on this site but with this one i wonder how the voting breaks down for wb members/non members.
my preference is for wbac or wbacc.
keeps wally in there as it should. adds airstream as it needs and drops international....which is so 50s......and since the mexico unit is no more.....there aren't any units outside of usa/canada.
cheers

Association?
I'm not totally keen on the word "club" - never have been. It conjures up images of snooty places, bad initiation rites, weird handshakes, a womens auxiliary, etc.
Although an AS club should have one heck of a clubhouse!
How about:
Wally Byam/s Airstream Association or
Airstream Association
or...?

Proposed Name Change for WBCCI
Quite honestly, I am not in favor of changing the 50 year tradition of the club's name. It provides grounding in history of the marque, that was one of my primary attractions to Airstreaming. Without the WBCCI, I would likely have abandoned RV travel several years ago. As a traditionalist, changing the name serves no constructive purpose in my view. If the change MUST be made then the least offensive would be to add Airstream to the name without replacing any of the existing nomenclature.
