Dan, did you grow up in Lorain? I lived there for a few years in the mid 1960s after I got out of college.

In the four days applications have been available, NOVA has obtained half of the required members to apply for a provisional charter!

I just went and signed Lorrie and I up as "Charter Member" Affiliates on the NOVA web site. There was no mention of a $1 membership fee. Let me know if I need to do something in that regard.

Same for Andrea and I...we sent in our form earlier tonight but there was nothing in the form or after submitting the form that said, "send $1 to..."

Let us know if we need to send cash or check to what address.

That's great you bring in all the Ohioans you can and some Michiganians have signed up for the associate status, now let's hope we get MALs and others from all over the world to join the first proposed internet unit of the WBCCI.

Signed up today as a new member - I hope this flies!

I like the idea, and while I have nothing against the more traditional units, I think this will suit me better!

Presume we will be contacted early in teh new year to pay the piper if all is a "go."

I think Dan has emailed the Ohio MALs. Are you talking to any of the other Michigan folks?

All the WBCCI people that I know from Michigan already have a unit and are in the Metro Detroit unit and many of the forum members are being recruited to that unit as well. I am looking for another unit and hoping to add onto the group of people that I already know, with people that I do not know yet.

I may have been mistaken about the virtual unit, whether it is a local Ohio unit, or a global internet unit. It is the wider internet unit that I was interested in as a former MAL and what is motivating me to sign up. Do you have the web page link?

That sounds like just the ticket for me. Give me boundless non-traditional members.

So in practice I would probably try to recruit from a wider area than the geographical base and not compete for members from the traditional local units.

Could we put "earth" in as the "location" instead of Ohio? Seems to fit the location of an internet based chapter better. I know... I know... Wbcci rules thing. Just pushing the bump up hill with an idea.

Ditto! If this is truly a unit that is nation wide than what difference does it make if location is virtual like the club.

I am still trying to figure out the advantage of NOVA.

I dont know about this NOVA...

In the IBT bylaws for the WBCCI it states that first you have to petition the region president, then he has to see if there is a need or a demand. Honestly I dont think there is. There are many active Units in Ohio. People who just want to camp, and actually do.

Then if by chance you get the region 4 presidents approval, then you have to hold meetings for bylaws, and petition the international. These have to be in sync with INTL Bylaws. And in the end, there is 1 more unit created in Ohio.

The MAL membership, I never quite understood. It is less expensive to be a member of a unit, second you get perks with unit membership, but I guess that is why you want to create one. I think it wont get the approval of the international, but if it does, you have to follow the bylaws anyways. That is the reason many people dont join.

All I am syaing is, it is a circle. I belong to the WBCCI, I am in a unit, and we do alot of camping, travel, white water rafting, and so much more. Well planned events. I really have ne reason to join something vitual, when I can actually do it.

I wanted to offer up this info for your planning purpose,

The current number of MAL in Northern Ohio is 3....

This may be getting reduced today...

Most people belong to a unit for the very reasosons you are wanting to start this one...

I did not realize, but last night I forwarded this info to friends of mine, (maybe they might be intrested) not realizing 1 is this regions membership chairmen. He is checking, with the President, but as of this point no one new of this new unit trying to Form.
