Just to recap this is the vote for sudden death of the delegate system. If passed the meeting is immediately adjourned and there will be no more delegates and further business will not take place as formerly conducted or previously scheduled and meetings will be determined by Ohio.

I for one appreciate all of the work all of those who crafted the replacement constitution did. I know it represented many hours for a lot of people. Thank you for your effort. I will now pray/hope for a Phoenix to rise from the ashes.

I totally agree with Aviator.
I did not expect such a crushing defeat.
Possibly the elimination of the delegates meeting is a big factor.
At first I was in favor of a direct vote count, however after seeing what it takes to get unit members to vote I now better understand the need for a delegates meeting and proportional voting.
I don't believe you could ever get a 2/3rd majority of the membership if you had to count on every member to vote.
We will now continue to conduct club business at a pace that makes the U.S. government look like blinding efficiency

The delegates can still bring much of that work forward. United delegates can make a difference. Disbanded individuals would have no way to bring that concerted effort. Delegates voted down the name change and the SOB motorhome amendment. If left to the individuals who are in attendance at the meetings to vote, guess where the balance of power would be?!

There are 40,000 Airstreamers right here on this forum that are not members. If membership is in question market to those people.
As for FMC losing 6,000 members that is a drop in the bucket considering their membership numbers go well into the 100 thousands. In case you have not read the papers many people have lost their jobs and a general economic down turn can more than account for that loss.

I agree with you Howie,
I'm not a member yet, but I've been thinking about joing next week when my packet to join arrives from Jackson Center.
One thing I think is missing from the whole program is some sort of relationship of Airstream company and the club.
For instance, it would be a nice plus, to belong to the club, if club members were offered discounts at the JC service center and parts department. Lets say a 10% across the board, all day everyday.
Everyone likes to save money!
IMHO, that would be a big draw and help increase membership of Airstream owners who are not members.
The potential is there, why not tap into it?

Representative democracy continues
Someone made the motion to "call for the vote" without allowing for discussion or amendments. It was a take it or leave it vote. Without the amendments that would have allowed for the continuation of the delegate voting, the great majority of members would not accept the new constitution. The work of the revision committee was rejected. If they still want to pursue MAL voting, they can do it as an amendment to the current constitution. They can also add electronic meetings.

Either it's real quiet and boring or it's very contentious and hot.

Somebody keep use us to date on this. We're buried in arrivals today, so trying to listen in is turning into a frustration exercise. We did get to listen to the 3VP voting this morning , but since then it's been pretty crazy here!

Motor home problem
They voted to sent the motorhome amendment to the Constitution and Bylaws committee for study. Report to be given at the Winter IBT and it will be reintroduced at the next Delegates' meeting next June. It continues the discussion for another year, without resolution.

So some units voted against the new const because the delegat amend was not discussed? So the whole thing was thrown out because of a procedural thing? Sounds like a set up if the powers that be new the vote would be no if no discussion took place. Please tell me I am wrong. Jim

Jim,
It was a proceedual thing that was brought forth by a delegate. The procedure to bring it to a vote was approved by 2/3s of the delegates. The bottom line is that the revision did not have enough support to pass. I believe that the final vote was around 35%.
