They get a longer stay for the same price, since they arrive early to help set things up. Whether they need to arrive as early as they do is a matter I'm going to defer to others with more experience.

Which brings up a question, who arrived first, and on what day?

The motion to allow non-airstream motorhomes was soundly defeated, once again. The problem of a small number of old guard high ranking motorhome owners wanting new motorhomes was not resolved. They do not want to buy any of the remaining used low mileage Airstream motorhomes.

At work, I've known people who were eligible to retire, but never would. Even when their take-home retirement pay would be higher than their take-home working salary. There were a number of reasons: "I don't know what I'd do with myself." Which is a sad commentary on the value of their life. "This company still needs me." Which would mean they'd never be allowed to die, either. "I'd really miss you guys." Don't they know anyone other than coworkers? Get a life, please. "I really like it here." Which is the only good reason to stick around, as long as you're still qualified to do the work.

The same applies to the WBCCI old guard. They want to stick around in WBCCI, even after they get rid of their Airstreams. This despite the fact that Airstreams are the reason WBCCI exists. "I don't know what I'd do with myself without the caravans and the rallies." Explore new horizons, guys. Lots of people spend their entire RVing lives witohut ever attending a rally or caravan, and have a great time. You can learn how, too. "This club still needs me." WBCCI gets by just fine without Wally Byam, it can get by without any one person. The march of time takes every club member, eventually. And, if you like Thor motorhomes more than you like Airstreams, then you're not the kind of person this club needs. "I'll really miss you guys." You can meet new people to hang out with. Besides, you've still got your last membership directory, you can get in touch with any of us, any time you want, without having to attend a rally, caravan, or IBT meeting to do it. "I really like it here." Great! Keep your Airstream and stick around!

Depending on their arrival time they can get 3 to 4 times the camping for the same price as those who can only stay for the Holiday period. Quite a discount to one side and quite a burden to the other side.

As far as the statement was meant to imply. This practice tends to stack the floor with friends and relatives incline to support the Leadership thus reducing the likelihood that any meaningful comments or motions will ever come from the floor.

In the pasted those presenting opposition from the floor have been doused with a pitcher of Ice Tea complements of one of the Leaderships wives. This has tended to keep opposition comments down lately.

Yes they do have a strange leadership style but it has served them will so far.

Physical assaults like that are not part of the parlaimentary procedures in Robert's Rules of Order.

Not that an impromptu retailiatory tea-bath would necessarily stop me; in the summer, iced tea is just as cool and refreshing when applied externally as internally!

Unsweetened, please . . .

Interesting to note that the recipient of the iced tea dousing did not file a grievance against the member who did it, but nonetheless was subsequently expelled from the club for his WBCCI-politically-incorrect utterances.

Gosh, how would anyone know since telling anyone you were grieved against or filed against anyone else is cause for diciplinary action.

I do recall hearing it mentioned that the apology that followed included some comment about it being a waste of perfectly good icecd tea.

I remember that and I thought it was an egregious display of aggression by a couple of WBCCI members who SHOULD have been grieved! The fact that Leo let that go is a testament to the fact that like water, or tea off a duck's back, he could let the unimportant stuff slide off him. But it should have been grieved!

I know all of the parties involved and Leo is head and shoulders above the other two. Leo shouldn't have needed to file a grievance; the incident was so public that action should have been taken from the top.

I stay in the club in spite of the shenanigans upstairs, simply because of good friends at the unit level.

That egregious attack on Leo, coupled with the lawyer letter fiasco and the ever present motor home issue was what drove me from the club! I simply don't have the time nor desire to deal with juvenile actions like that from a social club.

Too many folks at the top of this club have gross overestimations of their importance, stature and power within the club, which they displayed on a regular basis.

I would not have worried about a grievance in Leo's case, preferring to file assault charges with the local constabulary!

NO THANKS!

I admire those of you that have remained to fight the good fight. For the sake of history and the continuity of the WBCCI, let's hope that you rise to the top sooner than later.

Lewster, you are absolutely right. I left the club for much the same reasons, too many people with too much of a superiority complex. I have since bought an old Avion after owner 6 As products. I still have a morbid interest in the club, and really enjoy the forums. I really miss the people at Top of Georgia. Camping there was the only good thing about the club in my opinion. Jim

The incident was before my time, so I did a search on "Leo" and "tea" to find AirForums threads about the topic. It makes for compelling reading, kind of like watching a train wreck in progress; you know it's going to be bad, but you don't dare look away.

Even after reading all about it, I cannot for the life of me tell if the persons who felt offended were justified in feeling so; it certainly seems that their responses were out of proportion to the provocations. But even that is just speculation on my part, since I only have second- and third-hand accounts to go by.

All I can tell for certain is that there was that there were a number of double standards applied throughout, on all sides. It would make an excellent case study in a conflict resolution training course; classroom analysis of what each side did wrong would do wonders for people wanting to learn how to do it right.

Like Lewster and Zig I also left the WBCCI about that time. In addition to the problems at the National level there are similar issues at the local level. On a rainy December evening I was returning from a trip down the Oregon coast with a friend in a SOB. I decided rather then driving the rest of the way home we could stop at the Land Yacht Harbor. We pulled into the facility and called the person in charge on the intercom at the gate.

I was informed that I could stay but my friend could not. I said my understanding was that as a member of the Washington Unit I was allowed to have a guest. I was told that to have a guest required a written approval signed by the unit president three days in advance. My response was we would both seek other accommodations. As we were looking over our maps the gentleman in charge pulled up to the gate. After some conversation he said we could stay the night this one time. There was only one other rig in the entire guest area. By the way this is how the web site read then as it still reads today. See item 4. http://washingtonunitwbcci.org/ontheroad.html

I will say I have enjoyed camping with the Vintage Club and the Oregon Unit and enjoyed visiting with some of the Washington members but I just refuse to send a check to support such bureaucracy in a social club.

The final grievance that was responsible for Leo's expulsion from the club was filed by a region officer.
That region officer is now the International president. While it is to soon to know whether he will be a good, bad, or an indifferent president I can not help but speculate that the the nomination that put him on the presidential route could have been a reward for filing that grievence,
I have no proof of this, but can't help but wonder.

More than one third in favor now. They are gaining support slowly. Two three more cycles and they just might have the majority they need.

To amend the constitution, they would need 2/3 of the member's votes to approve it. The results of the last two attempts to pass it were both 2/3 against it. They are not making any progress toward their goal. The appearance of these repeated arguments is making it more difficult to attract and retain members.

You mean something along the lines of, "I deserve the nomination; look what I've done to protect the club."

Not being familiar with the personalities involved who put forth the nomination, it's hard to say. But I'd be more inclined to believe it's just the "old boy" network in action rather than as a reward for a specific action.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Likely some of both, as that's the way it works.
