Take a Look at this Article

I'd post it here but this thread is very lengthy as it is.

Speaking of costs, I do think that $75 is a bit much for dues, but it strikes me that our national caravans and rallies seem to be a pretty good deal. I say this because we ran across an ad for a Good Sam rally in South Carolina. Here's some of the info from the ad:

Southern Charm Caraventure
Myrtle Beach SC; Charleston, SC
April 16 - April 25
(all sorts of entertainment)
$3,489 (one RV, two adults)

That seems kind of pricy to me!

A while back I got to wondering about the cost of caravans and calculated the cost per day for several caravans.

The average cost was about $90. per day. Unquestionably cheaper than the commercial offering, but some are still pretty pricey.
Below was a cut and paste from mey spreadsheet so formatting is not the best

Caravan or rally start end #days cost for 2 cost per day

We would like a caravan but not if we could travel for a lot less on our own. As far as dues is concerned the increases would put most at $95.00 for dues, wouldn't it? I don't see how we could do the caravans time wise if working, or how we could do the caravans if not working price wise. I would think doing more in less time, though WBCCI says that isn't as good a value, would actually be a better value in our limited circumstance. We would still need to add gas and food money onto that as a very real expense for the event and time off of work. It's relative to expendabile cash for recreation but very much over what we could comfortably do. Perhaps there are others that would like to pay as they go rather than a kitty fee for every excursion.

When fuel, cell phone and pocket money are removed from my monthly full time budget, the cost of an average caravan would burn through my budget in just under 4 1/2 days.

Granted I travel frugally, but still. Four and a half days vs a month? come on.

Dan,

You're the Region 1 2nd Vice President.
You'll be the Region 1 President in 18 months and sitting as a full fledged member of the IBT.
You've been in the club for, what, 32 years I've heard?
Are you honestly trying to tell us here that you didn't know how much the Mid-Winter Rallies cost the general membership every year?

More importantly, are you going to propose any motions that will deal with the financial fiasco your predecessors have left us?

Will you be a leader among our leaders and forego your travel reimbursements?

How about grievance procedures?
I'm sure you'd agree with me that the proposed grievance bylaws make a mockery of the right to Due Process.
Are you prepared to stand up to the Ethics and Grievance Committee and fight for members?

What are you going to do about the reorganization motion? proportional voting? dues increase? etc.?

Is there any reason, other than a wine and cheese reception, that YOU are going to Louisiana?

Don
Region 1 member

P.S. Rally Fee: $70 per person + $18 per person for the optional Catered Banquet + Full hookups @ $17 per night.
It would cost a couple staying for 4 nights and choosing every option $244.

That You tube clip just took me right back to a fine happy spot. All the women in dresses and all the men in ties... Man I miss the good old days. It harkens back to "Pleasantville"... even if the song is about ones guy running off with another girl, it still makes me feel all bubbly inside.

Just so you know, I'm driving to Rayne from Brooksville, FL, with a car that gets 41mpg, 1500 miles round trip cost: about 100 bucks for fuel, 6 nights at the Days Inn at 54 bucks per, plus 50 bucks overnight each way, now I'm at 525.00 or so PLUS any extras, like eating
(trust me I'm not paying a rally fee for a reception, nor am I going to any entertainment), just the meetings and visiting friends there in their Airstreams.
It will wind up being perhaps more 750 out of my pocket, as there are no reembursents for other that Region Prez.........
I'm going to LEARN the process of the meetings and Robert Rules and how things in our club and people function.
and yes, I honestly thought (until I got into the politics) that rallies essentially paid for themselves by the rally fees?
(I did not know about all the stupid freebies at Int'l, nor the excessive amount of Volunteers etc etc.)
and yes I will stand up and speak at this meeting, regarding the issues that you meantioned, NOT that I can vote on anything, or that my prez will listen to me.
I can only sit, learn and voice an opinion.
Trust me NO ONE WILL INFLUENCE my vote as a president but the members or potential members.
and finally yes, I've been in this club for a very long time and therefore comfortable with things and ignorant about what is going on.
I was not going to use this analogy, for fear of offending someone, but it's the best I can think of. I hardly agree with anything the Catholic church says (Rome), but I feel comfortable with my local priest, and comfortable with the ceremony as I grew up with it.......and went to 12 years of Catholic School.......
I hope this makes some sort of sense to you. As I said since I became a Region VP it's been a very eye opening experience........

I got my 2010 WBCCI Membership Directory in the mail today. I counted 16 fewer pages of member listings than the 2009 Directory. I'm stunned. Did I count wrong? If each page averages about 55 member listings per page then 2010 has about 880 fewer members. Does anyone know what the numbers actually are?

One Less Too!

Forrest,

And I bet it's not even counting Frank and I.... are we listed? I sure do hope the leadership wakes up in time? They might wake up, but I do sincerely feel that the wave has already crested and they're about half way up... the tumble in the surf hurts!!!!

And Dan, you have my thumbs up...seriously, you do! Remember to vote yes for the $75 increase to SAVE the club (tongue in cheek). You should tell them, hey, if we reduce the dues to $40 a year, we'll get 2000 members back! but before you do, get the video tape running so I can see their "Deer in the Headlights Look" - thanks!

there may also be some listed in the directory that are not members in 2010. I wonder what those numbers are too?

Maybe they went through the Chicago cemeteries to get names—that's always been a place to get votes.

Just so YOU know, there are 6 units in Region 1. As a Region Vice President you ARE therefore ENTITLED to $920 of MY money. (Please see motions 12 & 13 attached below) Just think, if you ever make it to the big kids table, you could be looking at over $11,500 in travel reimbursements! And do you know why? It's because your esteemed colleagues (shall we call them the College of Cardinals? ) decided, on their own, that when you guys "volunteer" YOUR time, that it's more valuable than when I volunteer MY time.

Once again Dan, I'm sorry to call you out on this, but you ARE a Region Vice President, and NOW you are telling us that you're going to Rayne to LEARN how the club works! You are also telling us that as a Region Vice President you are powerless to work within the system; that your "prez" won't listen to you; that you're "comfortable" and "ignorant."

I appreciate your honesty.

Can you understand now why some of the membership is a little... miffed?

Please find attached the Mid-Winter Proposed Amendments. I have also attached a Proposed Grievance Bylaw change that Franklin Sanders, our Region 1 President, would not present to the units in our Region because the Ethics and Grievance Committee was not the author.

I would also encourage you to support Forrest's Separation of Powers Amendment.

Thank you.
