Good-bye Forums

Dear Friends,
Earlier this year I made a decision to take a hiatus from all forums. I was asked by several friends to continue on until the end of the year.

I will be leaving all forums for an undetermined period of time. I have several irons in the fire with the intent of preserving the memories of Wally and Stella Byam; Helen Byam Schwamborn, historical Caravans, Airstream and the Wally Byam Caravan Club.

Over the last two years I have shared history with the WBCCI Forum, Airforums and occasionally the Save Wally Forum.

My major contributions have been made with the Sierra Nevada Unit's history section. I am quite proud of it. SNU has more of the Airstream World history than any other source on the web. I will be contributing more pictures, writings and lore with SNU as time goes by. Drop by when you have time and learn more about the rich history of the Airstream World. Here is the address.

Traveling to rallies have given me an opportunity to meet and make many new friends. I cherish the many good Caravanners, I have met. It is Déjà vu. I have met hundreds and hundreds of Airstream owners, Caravanners, and WBCCI members since 1951. They are and you are the best of humankind, and I find that the good qualities have endured with so many of my new friends.
Hopefully next year I will attend several rallies, and I hope to meet old friends and meet new ones.

My departure from the forum, as mentioned, is something that began in August. It is not due to a recent censorship of one of my threads on this forum.

I watched a program about the greatest coach of all time, his name, John Wooden. He said team spirit begins with cooperation. Not a bad thought for all of us. Also he had a great thought, "Just because you disagree, you don't have to be disagreeable." Not a bad philosophy.

My Mother lived to 17 days short of her 100th birthday. She lived a long and wonderful life. At the base of her life was a simple phrase, "Be kind to each other."
I will see you on the road, and keep your spirit in my heart.

Dale "Pee Wee" Schwamborn
Let's not forget Pogo. Pogo said it all, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

P.S. Susan sends her love to all of her friends.

So long Pee Wee. I'll miss your writings here. I hope that hiatus means you'll still be around at some point. Maybe a guest appearance at a rally you heard of by telephone?

Strike while the iron is hot!

Pee-Wee,

Thanks for all your insight and stories/pictures about the WBCCI, Wally Byam, your mother and the caravanning/camping of the past and always trying to keep discussion at a level of respect many now days fail to do or understand. It was great to meet you at the WDCU Cherry Blossom Rally last spring. If you would like to attend again this year, let me know for I have an extra trailer.

May your new irons in the fire glow red and always remember,

“Strike while the iron is hot”

God Bless and See Ya Down the Road,

PeeWee,
Your sage advice, and unique perspective of yesterday and today of 'Our Club' was really appreciated and will be greatly missed here. Many keep working to improve WBCCI through positive change so we will all be able to continue to enjoy FUN, Fellowship and ADVENTURE - when one looks at the friends we have and what fun we have had it is clearly a fantastic Club. Looking forward to seeing you again 'Down The Road' as well as hopefully your return here.

Dale,
I would like to thank you as well. I have greatly enjoy your stories of the way things were and the pictures brought those stories to life. I have always had a deep desire to wander, in forest, field, or river (preferably with a good dog). Wondering what's just past those trees, over that ridge, or around that bend. Your stories of Wally and Steela and reading of the Caravans across distant parts of the world has caused me to expand the possibilities of my horizon. Maybe someday.......

My wife and I got are trailer to watch our son play football while in College. A way to travel to the games that we could afford. I have grown to love our trailer and the time I spend restoring her. This forum has been part of that transformation. I hope you don't stay gone to long. I also hope to meet you someday, shake your hand and share a glass or two.
Thank you, Bill English

Pee Wee, your nickname is a misnomer in the world of Airstream history, love and lore. Your writings have exemplified the kindness, friendships, and values of a former era and are in no way a “small” gift. Thank you for bringing life to our Airstream history and best wishes to you.
Change is good.

Thank you

Pee Wee,

Thank you. It was truely an honor to meet you and get to know you. Your willingness to share your thoughts, your knowledge, your experiences, your history, your stories, your philosophy, and, most significantly, yourself with the Airstream community has been greatly appreciated. I know, based on our conversations, that you're refocusing your activities to allow you to do even more sharing in an enduring way. I admire your plans and anxiously await the results. We wish you much success and look forward to your return to the forums. If we can be of assistance in any way, please let us know.

Take care Dale. I remember you saying you were taking a hiatus to work on your book and other projects. I don't blame you one bit for wanting to take a break from everything here. Your quote is appropriate from what I have been reading on here.

Pee Wee,

It has been an absolute pleasure to know you (virtually) and hear your stories. You remind us of the foundation that ultimately led us here to these shiny freedom machines..

Thankyou.
