Club News - Hints and Advice from Airforums Friends

I have volunteered to put together a short newsletter (Utah's Wasatch Airstream Club) for our new club. One article I want to include is on some hints and advice from friends here on Airforums.com. I am making the point this site is an interesting and useful resource. Here's where you all come in: realizing there's many folks willing to share opinions and expertise, what short bit of advice (helpful hints) would you offer club members? Serious, humorous, helpful hints... all welcome.

I realize this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but what the heck... please comment with your short tidbit of wisdom (or humor.)

Examples: Remember to keep the shiny side up, or Be sure to include an XYZ activity at your rallies, etc.

Thanks in advance for your contributions.

Regards - Ron

Get involved in club activities as much as you can. Without volunteers there would be no club or events.

Be your self.

We all need to work to find what is right for us. We like our Airstream friends, but we also like to get out in the wilds of nature. The more we look the more we find. So many beautiful parks, do not forget county, city and even county fair grounds as well as state and Fed.. Some states as well as our federal Gov't are short of money right now and letting their parks go to hell. Corp of Eng. parks seem OK. States that we know of that are having trouble keeping their parks up are IL, Mich., Minn..

You can add Alabama to that list. They have closed at least a half dozen parks/campgrounds in the last couple of years.

Hint: If you bring a dish to a potluck consider making a small folding card (like an index card) to place in front of the dish specifying if it's vegetarian, gluten free, has shell fish or other common allergens.

Hint: When backing into a site after dark use two LED flashlights as 'runway' lights. Turn them on, place at the front of the site on either side of the target area pointing towards the back of the site. Use them to as parking guides to light up the edge of your site and avoid trees, rocks and other hazards.

Hint: If you are planning a rally be sure to include it on the forums rally calendar - it's free and increases attendance and also introduces non-club members to the your unit. Rally ads are free as well

If one buys a new 2017 or probably later Classic, before one panics over the new systems, go to the Classic section in the Forums. There one will find a lot of information on how the systems operate and the fine tune adjustments probably necessary to get them running properly.

The "Your Favourite Small Towns" topic gave me a lot of great ideas for future trips, maybe you could create a top ten from the towns listed more than once.

"Hint: If you are planning a rally be sure to include it on the forums rally calendar - it's free and increases attendance and also introduces non-club members to the your unit. Rally ads are free as well." That means getting in posted far enough in advance to let people make plans to attend. Not everyone reads the forum every day, so get it advertised well in advance. Include date, time, location, cost, and contact information (both phone and email).

Thanks to all who contributed; this is plenty of info. for my Club News article. Interestingly, we are co-hosting the first unit (Utah's Wasatch AS Club) rally in 2017 from May 18-21 at Ruby's Inn outside Bryce Canyon NP. Planning is early stage so nothing to formally announce or promote quite yet.

Any additional hints or advice on cool things to include at rallies beyond the typical happy hour, pot lucks, and socials? We need to propose an agenda, so I thought I'd ask for input from ya'll.

Regards - Ron

The SW Adventure caravan has two activities at Bryce. The mule ride either 2 or 4 he and dinner and show at Ebenezers. Both worthwhile

I generally prefer rallies with a pile of unscheduled time but you could make it 'official' by adding it to your agenda

How about a tinfoil hat contest? Make a hat at the rally and then on Saturday night show up at happy hour/dinner and model it. Appoint a couple of judges and have a prize - maybe a free pass on scullery duty or a roll of foil. Always fun...

That's a great idea. I hope you don't mind if I borrow your contest - call it AlumaHead, AlumaHat or something - and use it at an upcoming rally.

Thanks.
