Camping along the way

A couple years ago we were at the Mammoth dig site in South Dakota and ran into a few Airstreamers. They were on their way to Green River, Wyoming for a rendezvous. While speaking with them, they mentioned a club in which members could open up their yard to other members for short stay. Does anybody know which club this is?

There are a couple of possibilities. The Airstream Club has members who offer guest parking, usually for only one night. Amenities vary, from just a level spot to full hookups. Good conversation is a given.

Another possibility is Harvest Host. Originally they were just a boondocking spot or two at a winery, farm, museum, etc. The idea was that you joined HH (for a fee), then you could spend a night at one of these spots along the way to your destination. The camping was free, but with the expectation that you would buy some of whatever they were selling.

Harvest Host bought out a boondocking club a few years ago, and within the past year they have purchased much of the Escapees Club.

I'm pretty certain they were referring to the Airstream Club (airstream club.org). Courtesy Parking is the name it was given when a fellow AS'er allows you to park at his/her location. This is one of the many benefits of belonging to the Airstream Club.

Check it out. I think you will like it.

Note that the Airstream Club has migrated the Courtesy Parking program to the Harvest Host platform. This will make it easy to make a reservation and for hosts to manage their reservations. Harvest Host membership is free if you’re only going to access the Courtesy Parking program. Enjoy!

Yes just watch out for the problem of not using the same email for both the Airstream club and Harvest Host. They may have fixed it by now though.

Hi

There are a number of groups who do this sort of thing. I agree that the most likely ones would be the Airstream club and Harvest Hosts. We use Harvest Hosts a *lot* when we are going from place to place. It has grown a lot over the years. Way back when, you could buy a lifetime membership. That does not seem to be the case anymore.

Airstream Courtesy Parking

We have Airstream Courtesy Parking at our place with full hookups for 30 & 50 amp. We are at lake Texoma on the OK/TX. Border. Harvest Host is also another option to research.

Yes! It is the Airstream Club International, formally the Wally Byam International Airstream Club (or something similar). In the member profile members have an option of allowing other members to stay on there property with consent.

Actually it was formally the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.

I just wanted to point out since Boondockers was mentioned but nothing specific or the BoonDockersWelcome membership which is also part of HarvestHost. This is the part of Harvest Host that the Air Stream Club Courtesy Parking was rolled into. It is an additional membership to use this (when not Airstream Club members) but if you also host the membership is free. We do this but have not yet had an Airstream stay with us yet.

It's fun to have fellow campers AS or not come and visit and start on the property. We have met so many great people as they stay with us but also as we have traveled and looked for an overnight place to stay without the $30 recommended spend that comes with Harvesthost.

Some needed clarification:
*Harvest Hosts and Boondocker's Welcome were separate companies, now merged and owned by the same corporation but are separate memberships each with their own membership fees. A user needs to create a profile after joining.
*Similar to airbnb, members research hosts and can select based on the info and reviews provided. Hosts can read the info and history and reviews of each user and decide if they want to accept that user's stay request.
*Harvest Hosts has purchased most of the Escapee's Club [except for the mail service] and is in the process of migrating Escapee's over to the Harvest Host platform this month. Join one, two or all three.
*The official name of the Airstream Club is Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. Airstream Club International and Wally Byam Airstream Club are DBA's. Used interchangeably.
* The Airstream Club has an arrangement with Harvest Hosts to show Airstream courtesy parking locations on their map system. This is a service Airstream Club is paying for. The Airstream Club is not a part of Harvest Hosts.
*If you are a member of either or both Harvest Hosts [HH]and Boondocker's Welcome [BW] but are NOT an Airstream Club member, the only locations that will show up on the location map are for either or both HH & BW. You can not see locations for Airstream Courtesy Parking.
*If you are a member of either HH and/or BW AND a member of the Airstream Club, courtesy parking locations will show up on the map. You may have to create a separate profile for the Airstream Club search function. See below. The HH system will know you are an Airstream member and you will be able to see the courtesy parking locations and contact hosts. It's pretty seamless if you use the same email address for all three clubs and already have a profile on HH.
*If you ARE a member of the Airstream Club and wish to look for a courtesy parking host location but are NOT a member of either HH or BW, you need to create a profile on the HH website indicating your Airstream membership number to search for locations. Each host has a calendar indicating available dates. Membership with HH and BW is NOT required to search for courtesy parking locations. HH/BW membership is NOT free.
*Hosting is a wonderful thing to provide if you own a property that can accommodate visitors. Offering amenities is not required, only a safe place to park. We are both BW and Airstream courtesy parking hosts [we have TWO profiles on the system, one for BW and one for Airstream courtesy parking] and consider it a way to give back to the community, especially with the increasing difficulty of getting reservations at paid campgrounds. Every BW host we have stayed with feels the same way about hosting. When hosting for BW, after you have hosted for a while and have had a certain number of guests, your annual membership is free as long as you are an active host.
*We enjoy meeting other campers, hearing their stories, sharing tips and great locations. In 6 years of hosting we have only turned down 2 BW requests for stays and those were for people who were "car" camping and were not self contained. One BW gal has stayed with us twice and we have had several Airstreamers.
*Clear? Lets go camping.
