BRN Display?

I know there are many other threads talking about alternatives to BRNs on the trailer, but they're a little old so here's a new one. We are attending a rally (Balloon Fiesta) and they require a BRN displayed for admittance and to display once parked. We're on the fence about sticking our numbers on the camper, maybe we will, but are there other alternatives that work well for rallies? Reading it seems most people proudly display their number (understood), does anyone have regrets?

We signed up for the international rally, but I don't want the BRN. So, we bought the lighted sign.

It looks snazzy. Is it attached once you're parked? Or can it be attached while in motion?

RE: BRN Display

I never really thought anything about installing my WBCCI/ACI membership numbers as it was one of the first things that I did after purchasing my Airstream in 1995. WBCCI was one of my motivating factors for choosing an Airstream so I was pleased to demonstrate my membership through display of my number.

I am the third owner of my 1964 Overlander Land Yacht International, and it has had WBCCI/ACI membership numbers displayed on its exterior since it was brand new. The original owners were friends of my family, and they had my uncle, who was a professional sign painter, paint the numbers on the trailer. My 1978 Minuet didn't get its first set of numbers until much later in life when its first owner joined the WBCCI after the Argosy was welcomed into the club, and it has had a set of numbers since that time. Needless to say, I have no regrets. I will be installing fresh numbers for this season as the ten year old numbers are fading and looking a bit weatherworn.

Havent been to a rally yet, but I put the numbers on. I felt it was just part of the Airstream experience. If I ever want to take them off and they leave a ghost. Oh well. Just another sign of being used and loved. And she is definitely used and loved!!! Hehehe

That said, theres these https://airstreamsupplycompany.com/p...c5ac891d&_ss=r

Ive also seen people put them on plexiglass and hang it in the window. Have fun at the rally!!!

It just hangs. So, it appears that you need to put it out just before going in and while parked.

We put numbers on our Excella - if nothing else they're a great conversation starter when in campgrounds, and the are handy when attending rallies.

Like mentioned earlier, you can easily put them on a sheet of plexiglass and stick it in your front/back windows.

After attending my first rally and having to spend way to much time figuring out which trailer out of the 50+ nearly identical other trailers was actually mine after I forgot which row of trailers I had parked in on day 1 of the rally, the numbers went on the trailer.

Apparently, 27ft Airstreams are really common, lol.

Good point, I think 25' is really popular also. I'd hate to walk into someone else's trailer in the dark after taking out the dog. She always likes making new friends however.

I realize you are asking about alternatives and I think the lighted sign is best, but every alternative is an inferior alternative. Why would you not want a BRN? I feel like every reason is far inferior to the reason to have one. For example, someone in your party is having a heart attack and you need fire and rescue to come to your specific airstream as fast as possible, do you want a Big Red Number that can be seen 200 yards away, or a small number in some random spot?

Years before I ever owned an Airstream, I thought the numbers identified rental Airstream units.

window cling/decal

We did a lot of research on alternatives to the stick-on numbers the club provides. We settled on having the numbers - same font, size, everything - reproduced on a vinyl cling. Not your regular decorative window cling, it's heavier duty. We put it on the aluminum up top, right where your BRN is supposed to go and it has actually stayed on while we're on the road, even in the rain. We got ours at Fast Signs, they call it a decal.

Then your caravan leader or whoever doesn't have to look all over the place for your BRN. It's right where it is supposed to be. But it doesn't leave a ghost on your $7000 sheet of aluminum.

Thanks, I like that option, can you take it on and off or does it lose its cling? Did you just bring your numbers into Fast Signs and they knew what to do?

It's not the adhesive that leaves the ghost - it's the years of sun exposure which fades everything except where the numbers are. If your cling numbers are staying on, you'll likely have the same result.

And just a polite FYI...if you attend the International rally, the first thing we ask for is to have your BRN displayed as you enter the rally grounds. We can then have your paperwork ready as soon as you pull up to "reception". It makes it a lot quicker and more efficient to have your numbers displayed prominently. It is also a way for us, and others, to find you and your rig (even though we know where everyone is parked).
P.S. I am one of the "hot chicks" with the rally arrival team.

A member of the 4Corners Unit we met got his trailer back after it was stolen because someone noticed those big red numbers and took the time to Google their meaning and then called law enforcement. We put our numbers on the front and rear windows right after that and are getting an extra set for the roof.

Hi, we don't belong to any group, we do not have any numbers on our trailer, I have no idea what BRN stands for. But we signed up for the Balloon Fiesta with Ken of the Four Corners group and had a great time there. [maybe about ten years ago] What changed??? Non-members can't go anymore?

That's correct. Due to it's popularity, it is now a member only event.

Yes, we brought the numbers in and told them what we wanted. They matched as best they could (very close match) and had us approve. We take it off and put it on, only used for club events. It has not lost it's cling in 6 years - the key thing is to clean both surfaces very thoroughly and carefully.
