There is an update on Top of Georgia on the Top of Georgia Facebook page and the Airstream Parks Facebook page. It appears they are making considerable progress on the cleanup.

We spent saturday night at Top of Georgia. They've done an amazing job cleaning up after the flood and the tornado (queue the biblical references to the apocalypse...) There are sites available with power, sewer and water hookups. They still have work to do but the park is open and operational. Nice folks there and met some new friends this weekend. Always a pleasure to share stories with other Airstream owners. The traffic in downtown Helen is a bit of a mess on the weekend, but overall a pleasant place to stay and very convenient for those of us in Atlanta.

Goin' up the country....

Va. Highland Haven starting the 28th thru July 3.

Ah temps below 90° with humidity below 90% and no skeeters. BEST solution when you have only 1 A/C.

The last two years of my career were spent on the road in RV parks. In Florida summer in the over 55 rv parks with park models and trailers that were skirted and metal roofed in slides. The place looked like an end of the world movie set, abandoed. You'd see some one at the other end of the street, and go down there. But no one was there. There'd be some people in the pool. You'd change and go there, but no one was there. The machines in the laundry room were always open. Such is off season in many parks.

Long around November there was traffic. Streets were clogged with people parking extra vehicles with out of state plates. People would be seen pushing strollers with cats inside screen enclosures. Intersections would be clogged with golf carts, hover-rounds and tricycles at 5 pm for the rolling cocktail party. There were newsletters with several listed activities. The laundry room would be impossible on Saturday morning. The migration...…..invasion is much different that the off season.

Do you know if this is a place you can visit and camp at? Or is it owners only?

Every Airstream Park has sites for rent. At Paradise Park Condominium Association near Punta Gorda all of the campsites are owned by individuals. A number of owners do rent out their sites. Go to the park's website and click on the "4 Sale/4 Rent" tab on the left side of the home page. You'll see a listing of sites and contact information. A link to the home page appears below:

Paradise Park Home Page

To rent or buy at Paradise Park you contact the owner directly. At most Airstream Parks you call the park or the park host for site rental reservations. Virginia Highland Haven reservations must be made through Reserve America. To purchase a lot, some parks like Virginia Highland Haven administer sales through the board of directors, at others (TCPC, Paradise Park) prospective purchasers negotiate the purchase directly with lot owners. I believe all Airstream parks have details of renting or buying on the park website.

At some Airstream parks you rent sites the owner, or assigned stockholder, is not occupying at the time. Other Airstream parks do not rent owner sites, they maintain a few guest sites for temporary visitors.

Ownership rules vary from park to park. A few Airstream Parks, like Top of Georgia and Mystic Springs Cove, are owned by WBCCI units. Others are stockholder corporations (Virginia Highland Haven for example) where the entire park is owned by the stockholders and individual sites are assigned to stockholders through a process defined by the park. Some are structured as stockholder corporations where individual sites and improvements are owned by individual stockholders (TCPC). Airstreamers interested in ownership at an Airstream park should talk to the park president and obtain copies of the governing documents.

Stay away from Land Yacht Harbor. (See other postings: LYH). It was founded as an Airstream Park with most of the residents being WBCCI members but now not even the Board members are required to be in the club. As a result the operation of the park is just a step above a “dumping ground” for misfits.
