Refrigerator Question
Hi All,
We have a 2005 22 foot International. We tried the reefer in A/C for the first time yesterday and nothing seemed to happen over night. I set it to AC, was plugged in, and to level 4. We have the Dometic RM 2352. I looked in the vent door on the outside of the trailer and the AC plug wasnt plugged into a socket. Are they normally plugged in or are they hard wired into the AC system of the trailer? Am I supposed to run a separate extension cord to an exterior AC outlet? Any help would be appreciated. We camp often but are always using it in propane mode. By looking at the directions, I would expect to see an outlet located at the rear of the refrigerator. Thanks in advance. Pat

They have to be plugged in. There should be an AC receptacle behind the fridge.

you might find it on the wall of the trailer above the outside access door.

As Bob said, there is a standard 120VAC receptacle at the rear of the fridge that it should be plugged in to. Unless you do that, the 120VAC will not flow thru the trailer's wiring to power the heating element(s) in the fridge, and it will not work on 120VAC when on shore power. It will work fine on LP without 120VAC as long as there is 12VDC from your batteries to power the control board.
Additionally, if your fridge has an ice maker in it, that too must be plugged in to 120VAC for it to work.
Sometimes the 120VAC receptacle is in a weird position at the back of the fridge, but it SHOULD BE in there. You might need a mirror to locate it.

Yes, the refer plug should be plugged into the 120 volt outlet in the outside refer compartment.

Thanks for the quick responses. I don't see an 120 volt receptical in the refer compartment. The wiring diagram says there is supposed to be one there but I certainly don't see it.

It will be most likely be a single receptacle plug rather than the common duplex receptacle.
Can you run it on gas until you figure this out? I suppose they could have forgotten to install the plug at the factory and it was never corrected. Did you buy it from someone else? What do they say about this?

I purchased it new back in 2005. I'm surprised I've never tried it but I only typically dry camp.

you probably can't see it. i had to feel around for mine. try using a mirror. i don't think you'll be able to get your head inside enough to look up. it doesn't feel like a 'regular' outlet.

I think Airstream didn't put one in. I did try a mirror and can't locate one. The wiring schematic in my manual shows one to be there and one other place where they aren't. I wonder if this is common? I'll have an outlet installed next time its in for service.

On our 06 Bambi, the receptacle is mounted on the inside of the outer shell of the trailer between the two refrigerator vent/access doors. It's a very awkward location and hard to see without putting your head inside the compartment....keep looking ... it's got to be there. I swore there was not plug in in ours, too...but there is.

There's bound to be one there somewhere. The fridge won't work on AC without it.
On my '83 Excella it's well above the access door on the the outside wall, not on the floor or a bulkhead. Very difficult to find and not where you might expect it. If you look at the photo (click on it to blow it up), you can just see the bottom edge at the top of the photo. Only shot I have with the outlet at all. I took it while I was installing a new refrigerator and was concentrating on the new floor, not the outlet.

Vaughan,
That picture did the trick. With the help of the mirror, I found it and now feel slightly stupid. Thanks so much for all the replies. This is such a helpful community. Pat

Nope. The plug was ziptied to the lower portion of the reefer. I wasnt expecting the ac to be high and on the outer panel. Plugged it in and its working terrific. Thanks again.
