Restoring my Keyless Entry system

I went on a quest to restore the function of my keyless entry system.
First thing I found is that the control module was missing
So I went on a quest to find a replacement, which turned out to be from a 1990 Thunderbird. Searching on Ebay, I matched it by the connector and the color of the wires on the connectors. This is the model that worked for 1993 34' Cleassic Limited:

90 TBIRD Manufacturer Part Number: E8DB-14B001-AA Part Brand: OEM Interchange Part Number: Hollander# 591-400
After installing it, I found out that the actuator had a burned out motor. I was lucky to find an almost identical replacement online:
MES Door Lock Actuator (2 wire): A1 Electric Online Store

To get to the actuator requires removal of the interior door trim and removal of some interior skin, which turned out to be a good time to repair and remount the old switches and replace the interior skin with aluminum.
Now it works like a charm and I am proud of it.

Peter,

It would appear that the actuator used in your 93 trailer is somewhat different than the actuators used in the mid 80s Classic motorhomes. I believe the motorhomes used actuators from GM vehicles.

Check out the actuator on page 51 post 1269 of Keyair's thread.

Great job of figuring out what you needed to make it work! It's amazing how many different manufacturers parts Airstream used in the fabrication of these trailers and motorhomes.

Brad

Now I see the difference. In the trailer keyless system they used a Motor that would receive 12V on either terminal to move the actuator, the Motorhome seems to use a 12v/negative ground solenoid. Same results with different systems
