We covered our gas lines below the belly pan with Pex to protect them from road debris. We've never had a gas line issue from road debris, but decided that now is not the time to start!

Some argue against covering the gas lines with anything saying it could cause more problems.

All systems functioning ...

Time to get it road worthy. It didn't come with anything resembling a jack, so I'm thinking a 4 ton floor jack and 4 jack stands rated at 4 tons each would not be bad for bearing repacks, brake adjustments, changing axles (someday) and allowing toes to dangle when parked for long times. Off to town tomorrow ...

We used the decoder ring on the serial number and discovered our full bed rear bath is actually a twin - explains the missing goucho frame up front (transplanted to the bedroom) and the mystery cabinetry road side opposite the transplanted goucho base.

Awaiting floor jack and stands ...

this picture is from the forward axle.

The only useful information gleaned is that these are likely the original axles, but because of the way the brake wires are, possibly with new brakes.

Reading the DOT codes on the tires, 3 the same likely from 1995 (035 triangle), the 4th from 1989 (199) ...

Yet more stuff to replace - yawn ...

The good news as we see it ...

It's not a white box, repair parts are still available.
All systems work.
We have less $ in this project than a new smaller anything would have cost (even with new axles and tires).

Not that it matters now ...

Belegedhel, I figured out the interesting gobs of caulking at the lead edge of the wheel wells where the belly skin and metal outrigger join.

The rivets failed and so a PO opted for caulk filler. They went back together okay with rivets after straightening. I'm curious why only the lead side damage. Best I can tell is tire contact, the trail side has much more room.

You guys were right about this being an opportunity to use my former job skills.

The 4 ton floor jack and 6 ton jack stands arrived the other day so I put it up in the air, repacked the bearings, adjusted the brakes, checked each brake with the break away switch and became more acquainted with my tires.

After the new tires are on in a couple of weeks, we're donating the old ones to the RV tire museum. It's very possible one of them is original, the newest is from 1995.

Interesting "family" ...
Good place for information about ASs, but after a while it's just like repairing anything else - some are actual mechanics and techs with formal training and experience, most are "nice" guys with tools.
Hope the ones who choose to look the other way when it comes to matching a TV and trailer, either by DIY, or some fabled garage that in reality only wants the money of happy customers, don't have problems resulting in harm to themselves or others - the laws of physics really don't care how you ~feel~ about them.
Hasta que nos encontremos de nuevo.

For sale soon, fully functional 75 Overlander 27'. Advertisement in a week or so. Huge change of plans that doesn't include keeping the AS.

Newbie here!

Hey all, I recently acquired a 1975 27' overlander and I am so excited to get started on the renovations! It is going to be a complete gut job (fingers crossed no major trailer damage, the thought of having to detach the shell terrifies me), and will be renovating it to feel more like a "tiny house" rather than restoring it to it's 1970's charm. How many of you have renovated vs. restored? I would love to see some before and after pictures and would love to know more about all of you!

However if nobody buys it, I could continue to restore it ... then ask for a ridiculous price. We have an okay place to park it in Texas.

Funny ... a potential buyer wanted my bank info so he could wire the payment for our Airstream bought sight unseen because he liked the photos and trusted me, but couldn't come in person due to traveling for business reasons, and wanted the address where it is located so a shipping service could pick it up.

my son is selling his motorcycle, he's had a lot, I mean A LOT of these scammers contact him. "We will send a truck to pick it up after the money is in your PayPal Account" SO YOU CAN BE SURE WE ARE ON THE LEVEL.

So many rip off artists out there....
