Replaced Valances

My wife and I got tired of the light blue "old-looking" cloth valences around the bedroom and front room windows. I just finished the project this afternoon. I replaced the originals with oak, stained to match other oak cabinets.
Took some time and thinking (ouch) but it is done and does it look great

Anyone else do this? I will have to take some pics if anyone wants to see what I've done.

I have the same tired looking valences in my '92. I'd very much like to see photos of your replacements. How about the bathroom walls, sink, couch fabric, . . . . .

Mark, I will get the digital out tomorrow evening and post some....but I need to figure out how to get photos attached here first. Probably easy as long as one has done this before .
We did have the couch recovered with a new pattern and at the same time had the old, sagging foam cushion material upgraded to something much better and more firm.
I've been thinking about those walls, too... Will redo that ugly vinyl stuff with something modern sometime in the future.
More later.

i'd like to see the pics when you get them...

i just figured i'd keep mine the same until it came back in style!! big paisley has gotta be cool again someday!

do you guys have the beige or mauve interiors?

mine is beige... that is tolerable, i have seen one that was mauve, and can understand the need for change.

Here's a photo in my trailer - I guess this qualifies as "mauve." Whatever it's called, it's gonna go -

I found the towel hanger only after one of your posts mentioned it - I wonder if the trailer has other Unrealized Features in nearly-out-of-sight places.

I also found it a few years back, then forgot about, then refound it when I was doing an epoxy repair on the plastic shower curtain last summer and had to remove the crossbar. Never use it though.....

Just saw the comment about the hidden towel bar. We don't use ours much but it's a neat feature. We also found it, forgot about it and then found it again. We use it when we return from swimming to let the bathing suits drip-dry. Airstream has some pretty neat little features that SOBs (same old box) don't seem to have.

If there are more pictures of valences I'd like to see them. My wife and I are considering an upgrade - don't know if we simply want to replace the fabric or go with something new altogether.

On a similar topic... we need to replace the roll-up shades. Somebody suggested JC Penney catalog sales - they apparently cut to order and I'm told the price is reasonable. Any ideas?

Fantastic!!

This is exactly what Phil has in mind for our valances! How did you get it to match so well?? My Northern MN-looking material should be here soon and I can't wait to get started. Please be prepared for LOTS of questions!!!

Ugly Ugly Ugly in '93 Excella

We just purchased our first Airstream, a '93 Excella, last week. It belonged to an older couple and was all original and in great shape.

The problem is, the baby blue carpeting and valances, as well as the mini blinds AND wall-to-wall curtains, look like a mortuary! First thing we did was took all the curtains down and removed the valances in the bedroom. Wow, what a view. We can see outside now. We also removed the bottom drapery rail. How do you sleep with this rail at the head of the bed? Ouch! We have just begun removing the blinds and replacing them with curtains made to size--just not so much of them. We only need them for a little privacy and light control. Just took the top tabs off the old curtains, sewed them onto new, and put velcro in the bottom corners to hold them down when needed. I don't think we even need the valances back up!

So how will we get rid of that baby blue carpeting It looks like it was laid before the rest of the interior was installed. Whew--that looks like work. How do we get this out

Wow, that mortuary look with the curtains all around and old roll up shades, has got to go from our Ambassador, too! I believe all that curtain material keeps some strange odors hanging around!

I'd like to install pull-down, day/night type accordion shades, but can't yet figure out how to keep them against the walls at the bottom.

Has anyone made this conversion...did you use the old bottom rails to somehow attach the bottom of the shades? I guess we could use Velcro...but that's kind of 'tacky'...

shades and blinds

I will get a picture of the '93 soon. It is in storage and "whew" are we glad we got it in there yesterday. We are forcasted to get hail and thunderstorms tonight.

In response to the blinds at the bottom. Maybe attach something at the bottom corners like a string material on the blinds. Attach a cleat to the wall and tie it like a boat anchor at the bottom. Might work????

I think removing all that drapery material really gets rid the old smell.
