Decision Time Replace my Center Brake Light or Not?

Decision time. I want to replace the rear brake light that came with my 1992 Excella. The original was incandescent, cracked, leaking and over all in bad shape. I thought maybe I could save it, but the lens was cracked, the light housing was also cracked and partly missing and frankly I'd prefer to replace it with LED. The problem is that even though I tracked down the Manufacturer who actually had since 1992 redesigned this light as LED, but they must have gone out of business. The website doesn't work and the contact info is also obsolete. There is a large 7"wide x 1" tall hole in the back panel where this light was installed. As mentioned I want to replace it with LED, but I haven’t located one that fits the opening made for the original OEM light.

My options are: I patch the hole and forget it. (This is last resort)
  1. I patch the hole and add a nice looking flush mount LED (which I haven't found yet) that does not require such a large hole.
  2. I patch the hole and cut out a new hole for something similar (which in spite of lots of searching I have not been able to find).
Has anyone else out there faced and solved this dilemma or can someone steer me to a possible solution?

Has anyone replaced the center Brake Light

I own a 1992 Excella. Please review my post below and let me know if you have suggestions on how to or how you may have replaced the Center Brake Light on your Excella.

The link will take you to it.

I have a 92 as well and am planning on replacing the center light and tail lights. I was planning on just patching them and using a new trailer light.

From everything I've found so far I'm thinking that's what may be necessary. I was really hoping to find another flush fitting replacement option.

This is what I used I haven't actually installed it but it covers the hole lengthwise and the screws will fit between the rivets. Widthwise (tall) covers all but about a 1/16 gap well within caulking dimensions.

My Center Brake Light Solution

Thanks to those who reached out with your discoveries and ideas. Sorry I didn't respond. I probably missed the notifications.

A previous owner had installed a large awning hook directly below the original light. I did away with the hook and made a patch large enough to cover the holes for both the light and the hook. My interior is gutted so I did this repair with buck rivets, but I'm sure Olympic rivets would have also been fine. I patched the holes and added a new low profile LED light with a chrome bezel from superbrightleds.com. I did not try to use it as a turn signal also. It is strictly a brake light.

Here is a link to pictures of what I ultimately did.
