Fridge install question

The PO put in a new refrigerator unit but I’m curious if they left something off or didn’t seal it right. Is the brown exterior cabinetry supposed to be exposed like this when you open the external door? Seems like it’s asking for water damage when driving in the rain.

Suggestion: rotate the photo on your computer, then post it. It's easier on everyone's neck.
