Calling all Slide Out owners - S/O motor help needed
We have a 2003 30ft Classic with Slide Out. We live in Saskatchewan, Canada and there are no Airstream dealers close to us. Our slide out will not go out. The locking mechanisms work but when we try to put out the slide, there is a short little sound and nothing happens. Our RV dealer says we need a new motor but he says he can't get Airstream parts and seems totally unwilling to even try. He says he doesn't even know how to access the motor even if I was able to get the part. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Is our best option to take the trailer down to a dealer in the US? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
It's been a few years - but when I had an '02 30' Classic S/O - the mechanism had a longish metal cover on the bottom of the slide that, when removed or opened up, allowed access to the motor and related parts. You should be able to see the motor and probably get part numbers for a replacement if yours is bad. Or, maybe you will find a loose or pinched wire. Good luck.
I have not had to troubleshoot any electrical slideout issues. I did check and the owners manual in section C in mine does have a procedure to manually extend and retract. It requires opening the hinged panel under the slide. When that is opened you should see the motor and possibly start electrical troubleshooting. Are you a tinkering fixer type?
I bet you'll have more answers as folks wake up today.
