2005 Classic Ltd 34’ S/O

With the new found love of dry camping I’m making some improvements on the 34’ S/O. Heavy brake maintenance recently brought me to realize that only 3 of the 6 brakes were working. While I was cleaning the brakes and repacking the bearings I found 2 brakes on the right side with broken wires going to the magnets and one bad magnet on the left side. I haven’t really used the trailer in about 5 years ( playing around with the 370 LE to much) I also bought 7 new tires…..the previous ones I bought were in 2011 and they were 09’s. I also had to replace the converter, the original one was shot. I went with a 75 amp unit, with 2 deep cycle Exide group 27 batteries. I installed 2 new 12 volt/110 volt TV’s with built in DVD Players. I’m also going to install an inverter under the couch and run a new 110 line underneath up the side wall above the kitchen counter for my coffee maker. We use a Honda 3000 but can’t usually use it until 9:00 AM (generator hours). Over the winter I’m going to install a washer/dryer in the rear half of the curbside closet. More to follow, Regards, BobClick image for larger version

A great trip to Cooperstown NY for the Columbus Day weekend then to north/south lake campground in Hunter, NY for the following week. Time to get serious now with the upgrades. I’m going to install the new washer/dryer in the rear section of the closet and the 2, 5 gallon fresh water jugs in the front of the closet. I’m building a new platform from 3/4” material to support the washer/dryer and 2, 5 gallon jugs about 270 lbs. I’m also lowering the closet floor about 6”, the 2 storage compartments in the floor of the closet are pretty much useless if you store anything there anyway. I’m replacing both inner and outer skylights due to fading over the years and yellowing of the interior trim. Regards, BobClick image for larger version

Love the pictures. Your under couch looks very similar to ours (2012). I never liked the battery compartments so when I upgraded to AGM, I removed those. I put 4 AGM's under the couch and put diamond plate on the front of the trailer to help in covering the holes from the compartments.

I’m getting the 3/4” plywood base all cut up to fit into the closet. It will be framed underneath with 2”x 6” structural wood to support the washer/dryer, and the (2) 5 gallon jugs for the fresh water drinking system. I have to wait till the washer/dryer arrives to determine the height of the support base. I want to lower it as much as possible to increase storage room in the closet. Unlike the 370LE where I had to cut through a main wall support for the dryer vent, the 34 Classic S/O has plenty of spacing between the supports so that will not be a concern. A few more pictures, I’m leaving 3/16” around all opening edges for the black carpeting wrap I’m going to use on the base, a rough plumbing lay out with trap 1 1/2”. Regards, Bob Click image for larger version

Still moving forward with the washer/dryer install, the base is already to go and get it’s covering on. I really had to reinforce the underside to hold the weight of the washer/dryer, the water in the washer/dryer, the 2 (5) gallon jugs of drinking water, and other cargo that might be stored on the platform. The new plumbing is roughed in and I received the new kitchen faucet which I’ll get installed this coming week. Regards, Bob Click image for larger version

The finished sink project……same set up as the 370LE, so the second time around was a little easier…..you know the saying….the faucet is made for the sink, but the sink is not made for the faucet. Regards, BobClick image for larger version

I got the support panel for the washer/dryer, water bottle set-up yesterday, the covering came out really well. I installed (5) riv nuts into the interior aluminum skin for a little extra support on the back wall. I will test the water system for leaks on Sunday before I make the final install. Finished up the closet, just waiting for the washer/dryer, probably on a container ship off the coast of California. The fresh water dispensing system works as it should, and no leaks in any of the new plumbing…..yet. Regards, Bob Click image for larger version

Finally picked up the washer/dryer from Lowe’s last night. I have a 6 year warranty……hopefully I will not need it. It’s a 1.9 cubic foot unit where the splendid was a 1.5 cubic foot unit. I may have to take a running start to get it through the door, but I think I’ll have it installed this weekend. More to follow, plus a want to get back to working on the 370LE. Good thing there’s a slide in this 34’ trailer. The washer/dryer just fits through the hallway to the closet area. It’s about 140 lbs. and it will end up sitting over the 2nd and 3rd axle. Now I have to Jack it up and slide it in. More laterClick image for larger version

OK……so now for the good, bad and ugly. Total time for the washer/dryer install…….42 hours. Could I have been quicker ???……..most definitely but I would not have been happy. Installing a 1.5 cubic foot washer/dryer is a lot easier than a 1.9…….upon further review, removing the interior wall became necessary to get the unit in deep enough to close the closet sliding mirror doors. If you want to ace the hole for the vent be prepared to move the unit back and forth about 17 times until you’re ready to commit to cutting the 4” hole through the outside skin. I’m very happy with the install and will test the unit out on Sunday. Merry Christmas to all, Regards, Bob

With the washer/dryer install out of the way and working great I am now under the couch for a while installing the new 3000 watt inverter ( for the coffee maker/ SO’s hair dryer. They (70 amp converter/3000 watt inverter) fit into the wood box under the couch. It’s a tight fit, but plenty of cooling available. The hard part will be running the line under the trailer to the kitchen wall to a special outlet (orange) and the remote to turn the inverter on and off. More later. Bob

That's the rats nest of no return. It can only be improved on.

Good luck

Gary

Saving my comments for what I have or have worked on. I have replaced the entire 7 way cable and installed a BMV-712 in that nest.

But many years ago I changed from a carb system to fuel inj on a 1985 2.2L Caravan. Yup all hardware, head, manifolds, fuel pump, primitive controller and more. Required lots of under hood rewiring to transform to something that actually ran. It worked.
