2002 Classic 30 Storage Box Depth?
I am looking at upgrading to disc brakes and am looking for a place to put the actuator. My trailer has a storage box between the frame rails behind the propane tanks. In newer trailers the depth has been increased to make it a battery box, but in mine it is not that deep.
My trailer is in storage 30 minutes away. Can someone who has a similar box and a convenient trailer tell me the depth?
Thanks,
Al

We have a 2008 30' Classic S/O. It's standard with disc brakes and the actuator is located in the front box as you described. The dimensions on ours is:
14"x15"x6 1/2"

Thanks Tom,
Do you know what actuator you have? I was looking at the Carlysle Hydrastar and it is 7-3/8" tall.
Have you been satisfied with the performance of your system? Can you lock the brakes at 25 mph on pavement?

Our front compartment is 7.75" deep. There is a lip that hangs down where the front hinge is and the back for the lock. It is 0.5". That would give you a depth of 7.25". The opening itself that has the 7.75" depth is 12" x 12.25".

OK, two different numbers now. I guess I'm going to have to drive to the trailer.
Thanks guys.

Just measured mine. Approximately 14"x16"x8". 2004 Classic 28. Mine has the flange on the outside of the box.

My '99 30' Excella Classic inside box dimensions are, 8'' deep 12'' side to side 17.5'' front to back. So much for consistency. Hope this helps. I measured twice and wrote once.

I was thinking the same thing, given everyone has reported different sizes. I guess they just make them out of leftover steel.
Thanks everyone for the info.

Al - I was in a rush yesterday for the measurements. We were packing for a few days camping. I put the measuring tape to it again today and the depth is 7 1/2".
We have a dexter replacement actuator for the original acti-brake. It was replaced under the AirStream recall. The system is really strong. The trailer brakes easily stop the whole train.

I too have disc brakes, factory installed. They replaced the Actibrake that failed before the recall and everything was good. However, when the recall occurred Actibrake soon went out of business, so I had them install a Dexter 1600. It has done a good job including running dry when a brake line had a hole rubbed in to it. All I had to do was to fill up the pump with brake fluid, replace and bleed the line, and I was back in business. No more problems. I suspect the Dexter has a low fluid shut off safety feature. If you have the disc brakes, you need a back up camera to watch for tailgaters. Sudden braking, and you are going to get rear ended. They are that good.

Thanks everyone. It looks like the Carlisle Hydrastar may fit after all. I have heard from a couple of sources that the Dexter actuator has had problems recently, but I have no specifics. I've read good reports on the Hydrastar on other boards.
I felt that towing my Safari 25 with electric brakes I could stop as well as with the Ram alone. Not so with the Classic 30 slideout. I'm hoping for a big improvement. I'm planning on Dexter brakes and the Carlisle 1600 psi actuator. Dexter claims 50% reduction in stopping distance compared to electric brakes. Probably going to run steel lines. When I replaced the short flexible lines on my car with braid covered lines the pedal got much firmer.
I do have a rear view camera.
