Space above refrigerator

I have a friend that has a 2004 25' Safari. Above the refrigerator is a large cabinet with a very short storage area. Does anyone know what is behind that short cabinet? We are looking to put some solar equipment there.

Thanks!

Roger

That is the vent for the refrigerator. Seems like a lot of wasted space but it can be pretty warm.

I have a similar shallow cabinet in my 2006 28’ International. I also have the refrigerator pulled out right now (I’m in the process of replacing rear subfloor and all flooring).

With the frig out, there is easy assess to enlarge that cabinet from the rear. I plan to add about 6” in depth. Adding much more than that runs the risk of blocking the flow of air from the frig to the roof vent.

Also, that entire cavity is sealed to block air entering into the living area. I’m guessing the caulk seal is for combustion fume control when the frig is running on propane.

Don’t put your chocolate bars up there. They will melt!
