What TPMS to buy?

I'm looking at picking up a 2018 Airstream Interstate TB next week. I'd like to add TPMS. What do you recommend, and where can I buy it?

Thank you.

Before I forget, what about tire valve extensions? What should I get for those too? Thank you!

I have been using TST 507 TPMS for about 5 years. https://technorv.com/collections/tir...SABEgLZ4_D_BwE This is from technorv website. I think Amazon sells them also.

It has worked as advertised. But I have not compared it to other units.

We use the Tire Minder. You will need metal valves stems on the wheels. It has worked well for our 27’.

TST. We had metal valve stems installed too.
5 years ago. Never an issue with it.
I do remove them in the winter.

Yup, replace any rubber valve stems (usually inner rear wheels) with metal ones before you add an external TPMS. Otherwise, the TPMS sensors will cause the valve stems to wobble which will cause a nearly instant flat when they eventually let go as the rubber stems crack and fail. Don't ask how I know this.

Had TST for years. Easy to setup. They claim rubber or metal valve stems but we have metal. When we return from trips or if we’re in one location for awhile we remove the sensors—saves on battery replacement as they stop transmitting when off the stem.

Which TPMS?

We bought the EEZTire TPMS back in 2018 with 5 stem-end sensors (1 spare) as well as an extender wired and adjacent to the R bedroom reading light; it's worked flawlessly for over 50K miles.
Only maintenance was to replace the battery in each sensor about 3 years ago, 'just because'.
Never got metal valve stems but when we replace the Michelin Defenders next spring, I'll probably do so for the same reason.
I think the technology for most systems is mature enough that they'll all do a good job, provided you get a brand that's widely used and has a demonstrable track record. Like most things, you get what you pay for.

^^ TST 507 has been great for me. I did have a different brand before. They failed and the manufacturer had gone out of business.

We have used the TST TPMS for over 6 years. The first 5 years with the 507 display and then we upgraded to the 770 color display when it came out. We used the flow-thru sensors for the first 5.5 years and, despite what everyone says, we had no issues with rubber valve stems. We changed the valve stems out for metal when we got new tires about 6 months ago. A friend (Bruce Gruenbaum) summarized the updates to the 770 monitor this way, "770 is all touch screen. Getting to see what each tire is doing is much easier. Pairing is much simpler. The UI is far more intuitive and easy to work with when you are driving." I agree with all of his comments and have found the 770 display much superior to the 507. TST has also updated their sensor design over the years and the new sensors seem to have a better seal and longer battery life than the old ones. We lost a few over the years to water intrusion but the new design is holding up great. We also use the TST Spare Air extension on our spare tire so we don't have to haul the beast out to keep it topped off.

I highly recommend purchasing from TechnoRV even if it costs a little more than Amazon. They generally have the best price on individual sensors and their customer and tech service is outstanding! They are very quick to answer any questions you have. They even carried over a sale price for me after a sale because they ran out of stock on a fairly expensive item.

TST 507 work great and also added metal value stems for dullys from Borg Supply. You can purchase the TPMS through Air Gear and get the recommended tire stems from yourtireshopsupply.com. Both have excellent customer service and will steer you in the right direction.

I also have the TST 507.
But I think it comes down to how you want to monitor it?
Separate monitor? Phone app? all data at once or cycle through?
I mounted the monitor on a RAM arm in a cup holder. (This has changed several times.)

I have metal stems I installed myself. (I always think I can do stuff more carefully) Boy, I learned a short lesson. Easy technically, but hot and dirty, and then re-seating the bead is hard. Let the pros do it.

Whatever system you choose, shop around. I saw $100 difference for the same system I have.

I started with Tire Minder A1A and was reasonably happy although it seemed as though I would have issues with at least one sensor every trip.
I played around with others (mostly cheaply made junk from Amazon-made in China- all with poorly written and hard to understand translations of the operating procedures).
A friend of mine (founder of the Slide Out Society) recommended Dill (www.dillairvalves.com).
They utilize the same technology as the auto industry (reads the internal temp of the tire as opposed to being affected by airflow rain etc).
Sensor runs as an app on your phone.
I really like them and feel comfortable recommending them.
Their customer support is superb.

Tried Tireminder at first had real problems with weak signal not getting to the display unit, even with the booster. Exasperated with it, I went to some off-brand unit (Zeepin?.) Got a better signal but the unit quit after one season. Seemed most folk recommended metal valve stems and the TST 507 units. Have it now for 3 years and am extremely pleased. The booster sits in the front window of the trailer and have never had an issue.

I have a similar experience to above. When I bought mine, I called TechnoRV and they were extremely helpful and spent more time with me than I had expected.

One note on metal valve stems. I was told (don't remember if it was TireMinder themselves or TechnoRV) that if you don't get the ones that allow you to fill the tire without removing the sensor, then metal stems are not required. So far, I have not had a problem using rubber valve stems. I was concerned, but I had just bought the tires and didn't want to go through the expense. When I replace the tires, I will get metal stems not just because of the TPMS but I think they are safer in general.

As far as range, I installed the repeater on the bottom of the tongue, antenna pointing down. I have a 28' trailer and a RAM 2500 truck and have had no signal problems. I've had 2 issues with the display monitor. The antenna cover came off and the glass came off. But it still works fine.

I do like the free batteries that you can get every year, but that "free" doesn't include postage so I'm not sure how free it is.

They don't have anything listed for duel rear wheel Sprinter MOTOR HOMES like the OP has.

The metal valve stems are not that easy of an install on Sprinter vans with duallies for some reason. Do some more digging into those here on the B forum as there are a few threads on it. I’ve attached a link to a good thread on it although it got mixed up with some trailer info but just read through it. For sure use metal valve stems.

I had a hard time getting mine installed. Took it to our Mercedes shop that has a dedicated Sprinter side and after a few hours the service manager said that they weren’t able to install all of them. They installed the long metal ones for the inner tires but unable to do the outside tires rear tires. He said that he was not going to charge me for half the work - go figure. I asked why he couldn’t install them and he gave me some BS story about how they didn’t want to ruin the Alcoa rims as it really didn’t fit in their machine. Keep in mind that they managed to install six new tires previously though. I don’t think that many techs know how to install these on the Sprinters.

I went to few shops after and no one really wanted to do it. I finally found a Town Fair Tire and literally begged them to do the outside tires. I found a YouTube video on the install and emailed it to the service manager on how to install them and he actually used it.

Below is the short video which is a quick basic install with the Borg ones. Actually, when I received the metal valve stems that I ordered from Amazon, it had the Borg name on the install insert.

I second StogieMan’s post above. I had similar setup on my old 2013 Interstate 24 Lounge. The TST 507 with flow-tru sensors. Worked great for 10 years and still going strong when I traded it. Replaced battery about every two years.

Use the TST 507 TPMS hybrid caps with the new upgraded color 770 touchscreen monitor. Touchscreen very easy to program new caps. I also have a signal booster installed. TST system has worked flawlessly and NEVER drops out for over 6 years on second set of hybrid caps. I also have the GM TTPMS installed but the GM system not as reliable as the TST system for me. I have the Dill metal stems installed with the TST TPMS system.
