Victron Multiplex, yay or nay for the Interstate?
Looking for good reviews for a supplier for the Victron Multiplex 3000W. Let’s be honest, they are not extremely inexpensive and I’d like to have some support after the sale if possible.
Pros and cons to the Multiplex? Where did you mount it in the Interstate? Works okay with lithium? Anything else to share?
Thanks-

I recently got mine from Ian at Boundless Power in Ohio. Great to work with and great support in both the planning and installation phases.

Hi
Are we talking about the MultiPlus 3000? I'm guessing that's the case and spell check is working to obscure that fact.
With any of these items, I'd buy from somebody you can talk to on the phone. You can get them on Amazon. The problem there is "who do you call?". There probably will be questions that come up as you go through the install. I've had good luck with PKYS. (Peter Kennedy Yacht Systems)
https://shop.pkys.com/Victron-Energy...er_p_2431.html
Normally I get stuff from Peter by mail and contact via email. In a few situations, I've driven down to pick up things. Service and support has always been great.
Is this the only person in the entire universe to buy from? Most certainly not. There are a lot of folks out there selling Victron gear. The main point is to go with somebody who provides support for the product.
The MultiPlus works fine with lead acid or with lithium. It will interface with other Victron gizmos. I have one of their control panels on mine:
https://shop.pkys.com/Victron-Energy...ro_p_6457.html
It makes monitoring and controlling things pretty easy. I started off with something fancier and decided the feature set vs parasitic drain tradeoff was not worth it.
Where to put it depends a lot on where the batteries are in your van. AS seems to love moving them front to back from time to time. The ideal (to me) would be rear batteries and a rear mount.
Since the beast has a 30A transfer switch in it, hooking into the shore power cable is probably as big a consideration as any of the other stuff.

Victron has a new model of the Multiplus out right now which is really nice. It has the ability to handle 50-amp incoming shore power on two 120v legs as well as 30-amp power, and it will supply power to both sides of a 50-amp breaker panel in either case. It has the power assist mode which will add power from the inverter side for times the available incoming power can't handle the load.
Ian ordered a number of these for stock at Boundless Power an I was lucky enough to get one of the first ones.

Hi
The Interstate is a 30A shore power setup. The Multiplus is still the recommended unit for 30A.

Didn't know that. In this case, the Victron 30-amp only shore power Multiplus would be the model you need, which would be an easier install than what I did.
I do recommend the Victron products. At least in general, since it's clear that I'm not an expert on the Interstate itself. The settings can be a bit cryptic and have a learning curve, but once you get the hang of things and figure out how to connect via their app or a laptop it's really easy to tweak things to your specific install.

It appears that everybody moved past the typo pretty fast.

We're happy with our Victron MultiPlus 3000, combined with a pair of 200Ah LifeBlue batteries. Thumbs up.

Same here. 4 years in service. Extremely reliable, well engineered and highly configurable. They run about $1300 bucks which isn't that much if you consider what you are buying from an engineering and power management perspective. Power Assist mode rocks when you need AC running but are limited on shore power supply. This is unit becomes the heart of the airstream power management, especially when you network in other VE.Bus Victron devices such as their MPPT solar controllers.

We have been using the MultiPlus 3000 for the past couple of years. Flawless thus far. See pics below for install in our 2017 GT.

Nice install on the GT. Wish we had the extra room in that area. I think our water heater in the Lounge extends back further behind the sofa than yours. Or you have the on-demand water heater, which is what I would guess. It will be a tight fit for us in that area, but at least it will fit. Only wish on the Victron was it would be just a bit smaller but I’m sure the size is there for a reason.
Thanks to all of you for your information and reviews. Great to have insight like that as it’s not fun to run into unexpected issues. I totally respect what choice anyone makes in purchasing the brand they decide on for an inverter. Our goal is to have enough power to run the AC unit on battery power. There are other brands that will make it happen but for the sake of discussion, just wanted to keep it focused on the Victron.
Appreciate you to share your knowledge with me. Open for discussion so share away please. Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who have helped solidify my decision so far.

Victron makes some of the best inverter/chargers available. I use their 12/3000/120 unit extensively on many of my installations. They make a great product that takes a beating, performs well and continues to produce as specified. You won't go wrong with a Victron product.

I'm sure it's a great piece of kit, but since you asked for cons also, I chose NOT to go with the Victron MultiPlus due to it's size.

Hi
Probably not. Since it's virtually the same price as the 3000, the only real advantage is it's shape. It's bigger in some directions and smaller in others. That may work in some very specific situations.
With any inverter, it takes a lot of battery to run the A/C for very long. Folks put 1000 AH in simply to get 10 to 12 hours of run time.

Victron
I would buy nothing but Victron. It’s the best! Second best is not acceptable!
Bought mine from Battleborn. They will program it for you(not a DIY process). They’re engineers are great, and will spend as much time with you as you need. Great folks. Yes to lithium’s. They are a game changer.

Hopefully the system you got from Battleborn included the interface which allows you to connect a laptop to it. There is also a Bluetooth app which can changes to the settings, but I find the laptop easier. Not saying that there's a need to make changes frequently, but I've made a few tweaks over time. Ian from Boundless Power walked me through it the first time, and it's not been a problem since.

You get about 4 hours of runtime for a 15k BTU AC on a hot day with 1000ah it’s about $1000 / each 25 minutes of AC runtime off batts
Man it’s great for lunch / dinner stops and the like though
