Upgraded Stereo (parking brake wire?)

Hi all. My 2012 AI GT wouldn't pair with my phone so I went in search of a cost effective replacement. I really didn't care about an Infotainment stereo so I got a 10.1 in Boss Radio. It's in looks good, but there is a yellow wire with a blavk stripe not in the harnass. I am wondering what that is, as well as, if someone can tell me where the parking break wire is or what color it is.

Thank you! I love this forum!Click image for larger version

Not sure about your wiring harness but I had a similar problem installing a new touch screen Sony in our trailer. The new ones want to see the parking brake trigger before you can access the settings menus.

For mine this was problematic since trailers don't have a parking brake. Fortunately, there are modules you can use to bypass the parking brake requirements. I found mine at a local stereo install shop. Cost was less than $20 and the install was simple.

I'd suggest checking out a stereo install shop near you for something that will work for your unit. You might be able to find one online by searching for your model number and "parking brake bypass."

Have looked at the manual for your Boss Radio for an answer?
https://bossaudio.com/product-info/manuals/

Most parking brake inputs for automotive radio/entertainment systems just require the wire be grounded to negative side of the 12VDC electrics.

Not anymore - lots of them are now looking for a more complex on-off pattern for the signal. That's why I had to use the module to bypass on my Sony install. It's purpose is to mimic the on-off pattern that the head unit is looking for. Guess they caught on that people were just grounding the wire and made bypassing it more complex

Some can work with just grounding the wire, but many can not.

Best advice is to search online for information regarding your specific model and see what other people have done to get it to work. If you need the module, they are easy to find and install.

Thanks I did ground it today. I didn't get a chance to play with the radio yet, but I'll report back.

The big test will be accessing the settings menu and Android Auto settings (if you have it). Those two seem to be common features locked down when the vehicle is in motion.

I put a Pioneer car radio in my Sali a while back. From my install thread:

REVERSE & SAFETY - being a car radio the Pioneer has a reverse feature to activate car backup cameras, and a parking brake safety feature that keeps you from using certain features while driving. Both these are bypassed by grounding these wires along with the unit ground wire.
