Question TST TPMS Settings

I checked all my tires and made sure pressure is up to spec (door jamb sticker has 61 psi for all tires)

Those with TST TPMS 507 Series RV-6-C

What settings are you using for:

Pressure Parameters
Temperature Parameters
  1. High Temperature Alarm
  2. High Pressure Alarm
  3. Low Pressure Alarm
Need to validate values for these before I install the TPMS kit...

Sensors paired to monitor. Need to set parameters before installing on valve stems.

Might have jumped the gun... there are recommendations in manual... darn it, hate it when I ask questions that I could have answered myself...

High temp alarm - still need recommendation.

High pressure alarm - recommendation is 20-25% over normal tire pressure...

Low Pressure Alarm - recommendation is 10% below normal tire pressure...

I wanted to install them... set the temp alarm at 125 degrees for now and will change once I hear from other forum members.

I have to agree with Protag on the factory recommended of 61 psi on all 6 tires, I ran 65 on my brand new set of Michelin and after 1600 miles it look to me all the tires edges were not touching the pavement, they are basically over inflated. I did have my front ends realigned which was the cause of outer edges wear prior.

The actual settings are in the monitor. The sensors just transmit the status... so go ahead. Install the sensors. Adjust the parameters at will

All my tires are at 61 psi.

On the TST TPMS monitor I set the alarm for high pressure to sound at 73 psi (approximately 20% over normal).

Low pressure alarm is set to sound at 55 psi

The manual for the TPMS suggested leaving temp default at 158 degrees... I lowered that to 125... no reason, no data to back that up... this is where I was hoping to get some feedback from the folks that have these...

My alignment is at a camber of nearly zero - as recommended other places in the forum. Is your alignment at the factory spec of 1.3 or the 'user experience' spec of 0? I can understand why one should have the vehicle aligned when it is at its typical weight. But I am not sure why one would need to have it at a non-spec value when at its typical weight.

I had severe outer-edge wear on the Continentals at 61 psi, which was solved at a higher pressure. Your experience with Michelins seems just the opposite.

Question

That was for Air99?

I still have not done an alignment...on the list of things to do

I've had great experience with my TST since bought them 2.5 years ago. Reported a low pressure tire. Yep, slow leak. Reported a sudden loss of pressure on a pair of tires, one week apart. Right both times, the composition stems had cut through (turns out, they were bad batch of stems, a known problem we didn't know about). Haven't had a temperature incident although sometimes when Debbie reads off the readings to me she accidentally reads temperatures instead of pressures.

Temperatures vary from tire to tire much more than pressures do on our setup. The highest temp I've seen, I think, is my drive axle tires. I think they go a max of about 20 over ambient temp whereas steer and trailer tires rise about 10 degrees.

I was talking to my Engineer boss some years ago. I was considering out-thinking the manufacturer's engineering department on my really nice sports car - I suggested adopting a "more sensible" torque setting for my factory alloy wheels. He said, "Who do you think has studied this more and knows more about the correct torque settings for your car's wheels?"

I use the recommended 158F setting for my TSTs on all eight tires.

I can look it up once I get home, my old front Conti have severe edges wear on the OUTSIDE edges of tires only, look like too much positive camber before re alignment. I also noticed less sidewalls bulging on the new Michelin at 61psi so maybe different tires need different pressure. Just want to relate my own observations and sorry Wachuka didn’t mean to hi jack your post.

Your TST manual has a recommended temp setting. It doesn't come to mind right now. I've noticed though when driving in extreme temps that my rv tires heat up much more than my trailer tires which have a nitrogen fill. Thought about getting my coach tires filled with nitrogen.

Air is 78% nitrogen, so lower temps are more likely due to something else, weight, flex, drive.
I'd be curious if someone puts nitrogen in the left side and air in the right side and see if there's a difference.

I use a high temp setting of 150. I recall reading somewhere that tire failure occurs at approx 160, so a 10 degree buffer will give me the chance to pull over an cool the tires. I think if you drive in the summer that 125 may be a bit low. When outside temps are in the 90's and the sun is shining on the pavement, road temps can easily top 110 with your tires heating up quite a bit.

Temp set to 150. Thank you.

One more question. Where are you installing the repeater?

I didn't us a repeater and have no problems. I even pull a 12' Cargo trailer with Sensors on all 4 wheels and have no problem getting a signal. I would try the system without the repeater and if all is good, return or sell the repeater.

I have the monitor on the suction mount in the windshield, corner of the driver side, next to the side of the door.

Inside rears were not picking up... ended up installing on top of TV area. And got power from the USB wires. All good now.

I also have the TST TPMS. Same as c21bill - I don't use a repeater and have never had an issue with receiving the wheel sensors.

Okay... how long do you wait before you start seeing all wheels registered/displaying?

Maybe I was not waiting long enough for them to start showing...

Takes a while, perhaps 15 or 20 minutes. You can leave them switched on because the battery will last a week or so. That way you don't have to wait for them to show up each time you start.

If you camp somewhere cold, I would recommend turning them off in the evening because if the temp drops the low pressure alarm might get triggered. It's happened to me in the late hours.

Mine will start giving me some readings in less than 5 minutes. Typically the first reading shows up right after I back out of my driveway. After 10 minutes I always have solid readings on all six tires.
