Tricks for Drawers Opening?

New Interstate 24 GT owner here. It seems that a couple of drawers like to open when taking turns. Yes, I drive slow through the sweepers? Simply stated, what I thought were locks don't seem to be effective. Any tips or tricks?

Order some gaffer tape on Amazon. Easy solution. Leaves no sticky residue.

We have a 2017 GT. I upgraded to 10lb latches. The standard I believe are 3lb latches. A bit tougher to open but it solved the problem. Easy fix.

Welcome to the club.

Note sure your year but these are the latches I used. You only need to install the latch itself and reuse the receptor on the drawer.

Check this thread for a product posted frequently over the years:

Own your trailer long enough and you will learn some of the products Airstream chose to include function poorly or have a short lifespan. The plastic latches are among the poorer choices and fail way too frequently. Get the brass ball latches and they will outlast your ownership.

2018 GT. My wife could not handle the 10# latches and, at 88, I have poor hand strength. The 10# solution did not work for us.

I replaced 5 of the heavier drawer galley latches with locking latches from Amazon. Several of the drawers were easy because they had a surface above them to place the catch. On the other drawers, I installed the latches upside down with a post that engaged a catch under the drawer.

The new latches are close to the appearance of the originals and retract like the originals.

Pretty hard to find drawer handles on an Interstate. This started as an Interstate thread and went astray like so many threads do.

Unintentional Drawer Deployment

You might also look at some of the childproofing latches that go on the cabinet doors and drawers on the inside.
Was installing some of these for in my daughter's home and thought they might be a good fix for our AS.
Be careful, though; some are accessed by the fingers when the drawer's barely opened and are easy to use while others require a magnetic 'key' placed against the outer, opposite side of the door. This could be a nuisance if the key's misplaced or used frequently.

Admittedly the issues are a bit different in an Airstream trailer, but here is what I use:

I have a couple drawers in the rear desk that used to launch out onto the floor with heavy braking, especially in Phoenix traffic! I used stick-on childproofing straps that wrap around the corner of the cabinet to the drawer front. They unlock with a finger press on the latch. The adhesive works loose in the heat, but sticks right back on. These do not mar the surface of the laminate.

On the kitchen side I use a long adjustable nylon strap and footman loops screwed down in strategic spots to hold the wardrobe, fridge, and oven door firmly shut on the road. This helps with the hard dodge traffic maneuvering in Phoenix as well.

Avoiding Phoenix traffic is, of course, the easiest solution.

Surprised that Airstream doesn't install good latches. Coleman Popups (once king of all Popups) has fancy feature to prevent accidental drawer openings.

You can use earthquake latches like we do on cabinets in California.

My drawers kept opening when making a right turn in my 2020 GT. I told my dealer about the issue and they replaced all of the latches with 10 lb latches. I haven’t had a problem since.
