Those Little Scratches That Bug You

My Interstate has the dark interior and like all the rest have laminant fronts for closet doors and cabinets. My problem is not the fronts but the wood trim on the edges. I have a few small nicks from moving back and forth and loading my camping gear.

That all said, I'm looking for a solution to cover up the nicks in the wood. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I've tried to use one of those wax pencils for nicks on furniture with no success.

I have used Watco Danish oil, believe its made by MinnWax. It is available in different colors. Its easy to apply, let set a few minutes and wipe away the excess. I have seen it at Ace Hdw and Home Depot. Murphy's Oil Soap may work as well. Other oils may work, too.

We have the same problem, with cherry-stained interior. Not only a small nick or two, but also some areas near the floor where the color has worn off.

Here is your solution. These can be found at Lowe's, Menard's, Ace Hardware, etc. You can use a bit of wood filler first, if you need to.

They come in several stain shades. We have the cherry for the Interstate, and antique oak for the molding at home.

They work beautifully, trust me. We are a bit persnickety, like to keep things looking nice.

Once the stain touch-up has dried thoroughly, cover the area....and the rest of the wood finish....with a good wood polish and conditioner. We have one by Howard, with orange oil and beeswax in it. Protects your finish and makes everything look lovely.

I have tried Old English on antique walnut furniture at home. It initially looks like it covers, but the scratches come thru pretty quickly.

What I like about the Minwax markers is that they work like a permanent marker of any kind, but for wood. They re-stain with the ease of a magic marker.

Nope. That would be Old British, right?

There's a product called Old English that's used to cover scratches in furniture. It's a very dark liquid but works on lighter colored woods also.
