I installed the Renntech tune on my 2021 GL last year. I’ve since put about 8K on it. I think it makes a noticeable difference in mid-throttle acceleration. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in mileage one way or another - even when pulling a small 14’ aluminum cargo trailer (loaded with paddle boards and mountain bikes).
The biggest thing I would note is that under heavy load (climbing a long, steep grade) there is some minor “surging” - if you’re flogging it. I’m told this is a product of the type of turbo impeller MB uses on this motor and can be eliminated with a larger turbo/intake. I don’t flog it and so haven’t been bothered by it.
All in all, I’d say the tune is a worthwhile upgrade if you’re wanting a bit more performance out of your van. That’s coming from someone who has done several ECU tunes on different vehicles over the past decade (when they started getting decent) and doesn’t really stress about the long-term effects. As with all ECU tunes, there’s tons of opinions to be had on cost versus benefits versus ‘manufacturer knows best so don’t meddle’. I’d do it again.
I hope that helps.
