I find this thread interesting on two levels.

The OP posted a good question about 3 days ago and got some good answers and suggestions. He has not responded.

I continue to be amazed at the number of "campers" who expect to be able to take a long hot shower while using a 6 gal water heater. Apparently Airstream has heard all of you and are now going with the "continuous" water heaters. I have never run out of hot water but I do follow the basic rule, wet down, turn off, soap up, wet down, repeat. Once I am done, I can stand and let the water run if I want. Never have had a problem.

Super thankful for everyones input and all answers. I've always appreciated forums and the wealth of knowledge they bring from everyone involved in the specific hobby. As new RV'ers, we're learning just like every other person who started (not really sure what to expect).

I've researched for years before we found our 2014.5 Airstream Interstate Lounge. I think in that time Ive learned a lot about the coach, but I was looking for people opinions on this question.

We're not expecting all the luxuries of home, and we are well aware that camping and "roughing it" (If Glamping in an AI can be considered roughing it) wont be like living at home. I had read an experience about an owner cycling heated water through his fresh water tank by using his outside shower back into his fresh water. I thought this was an ingenious way of pre heating the water so recovery would take less time, (if that was even necessary)

Thank you all for taking the time to respond and share your tips.

That was an interesting tip about using your outside shower to preheat your freshwater tank. I would think this might work. But then, when you are finished you have a FW tank full of warm water. That would be another challenge in my book.

Agreed, the last thing I want is a fresh tank full of lukewarm water that's been flushed through the water heater. We drink water from the fresh tank in addition to using it for other things, so that's not appealing in the least.

The good news is that if a hot shower is all you're worried about, none of this is necessary. Assuming the water heater is functional, one should have no problems getting a hot shower.

Regarding leaving the grey tank valve opened and draining to the sewer hookup during a shower - well, that only works if you have a gravity dump. Most more recent AI's have a macerator in the mix, and nothing will dump from the grey tank in that scenario unless the macerator is running. Of course, the last thing you want to do is leave the macerator running, because that would likely burn it out. So, one is most likely back to managing grey water volume before and after showers, even in a campsite with hookups.

Never an issue running out of hot water

To answer your question. We never gave showering a 2nd thought my wife and I have never experienced running out of hot water. We keep the water running the whole time. We rarely use the campsite showers. We have a 2017 International that gives us the option of electricity or propane to heat water. We use the electric option and keep our hot water always on. Even when we had an older 2006 which only had the propane water heater we never had a problem with hot showers.

Happy to report that we had ZERO issues with hot water and it seemed like we had no possibility of running out. Both my wife and I had a nice HOT shower, and the even the kids who tend to linger a bit had no issues. We chose the dual heat option of propane and electric for quicker regen. Two totally impressed adults looked at each other and agreed, our Interstate is AWESOME!
