Sewer hose mods on Interstate

The sewer hose can be difficult to roll in especially the last several feet!
Solution: I cut 4 feet off the hose and so there are now less loops on the spool.

Secondly I replaced the on/off valve on the end of the hose with 3/4" valve and fittings. Now it is much easier to get the (smaller) valve in the storage compartment. Unless I am mistaken the 3/4" arrangement does not provide any further restriction (diameter wise) than the original setup.

Sounds like a good mod. Could you share pictures with us of your replacement valve?

Unfortunately my rig is 500 miles away so I can't take a photo. However I have attached a picture that shows the (new) 3/4" valve on the left and the one it replaced on the right. The fittings are all available at Home Depot and it is straight forward to figure out. I will post a pic in a few months when I am back with the Sprinter.

I handhold the hose about 18" from the side of the AI and move it back and forth as it retracts. Just the same action as a level-wind on a fishing reel. I have no problem getting the full length of the hose to retract.

When the valve on the end is about a foot out, I tuck the end in and slowly take up the slack. There is no problem getting it to stow.

I would hate to have a 4' shorter hose. It is a close call to reach the sewer at a lot of sites as it is.
