RV Insurance Policy And Good Sam Roadside

We have what seems to be a good RV insurance policy (Progressive) that includes roadside assistance and towing. Is it worth getting Good Sam roadside assistance coverage in addition? Does anyone have experience with either or both? Of course we hope we never have to use it, but if there is something about RV insurance policies that fall short, it will be good to know about. I have been on the phone with my insurance company just trying to learn some specifics of the roadside coverage and it seems that they cover the same things that Good Sam does. Any advice on this?

I have used the Good Sam policy twice and I had good results both times. First time, I was stuck when my GPS took me down a road with a low railroad trestle and I was towed out of a muddy cornfield. Second time was when my diesel truck stopped cold on a Sunday. My trailer was towed to a campground for the night and the truck was towed to the dealer the next morning.

Both experiences could not have been better.

I kept the Coach-Net coverage for a few years after the first two years provided by Airstream with a new coach. Upgraded to cover Interstate and my car. I used it once for the Interstate and once for my car. But it's darn expensive.

I recently changed to roadside/towing coverage on my car policy with USAA and the Interstate policy with Progressive. Coverage like Coach-Net and Good Sam provide other services like trip planning if you want that. I didn't want anything other that basic roadside and towing coverage. It was only about $30 extra on each policy for the coverage.

Also all these Roadside/Towing policies services are provided by a few companies that contract with Coach-Net, Good Sam, Progressive and USAA.

I have used Coachnet for years now and the big difference between them and car roadside is that Coachnet has trained RV technicians that will help diagnose the issue and get you back on the road, auto roadside will only call a tow truck for you because they know nothing of RV's. A note of caution, if you do need a tow on your AS Coachnet already knows the correct tow truck/flatbed trailer to send where progressive may not.

I've researched this in the past. Anyone you work with for a tow of your Interstate needs to be informed that you have an oversized vehicle.

Link below is a good article from Popular Mechanics about Roadside coverage. A company called Agero provides the coverage for USAA, Progressive and many others.

The article as mentions that Allstate, Gieco and AAA deal directly with service providers.

CoachNet coverage is from National Motor Club.

Check the fine print on your progressive policy related to towing. It’s pathetic!! I have it and I added the GoodSam extra coverage for longer tows if needed.

I have looked at the fine print. Copy attached - am I missing something? It says "... towing to the nearest qualified repair facility..." seems adequate to me.

Also just noticed those links I posted above don't seem t work. Try these.

Also just found the source of Good Sam Roadside. It is Affinity Road And Travel Club, LLC which is apparently owned by Camping World.

Do you think "towing" actually infers transporting on a flat-bed?

Good question. Flat-beds are becoming the common tow trucks today because most vehicles can be damaged by towing with any wheels down.

I've had two tows so far. One by Mercedes Roadside, provided by Allstate for my Interstate Sprinter. They sent a flatbed truck capable of handling the Sprinter and low enough to get under the bridges between where I was and the nearby dealer who messed up the repair causing my problem. The other tow I've had was by Coach-Net for my Prius. They sent a pickup truck with a trailer to get me to dealer for a new traction battery.
