Replacing the Onan 2500w LP generator

I posted a while back about my generator problems. Adding oil, looking for diagnostic codes, etc. did not solve the problem.

I worked with a mobile RV tech here in western NY and he had same results, ultimately removing the generator from the van for bench work. His diagnosis is that the motherboard is out, and there’s no sign of those (ever?) showing up in supply again. I want to sell this van so am now in the decision process of trying to replace the generator or sell as is.

Finding new or used of the existing 2500 model (even the new quieter model) appears to be unlikely, though I’m contacting some folks on eBay that claim to have one. We’ll see.

Have any of you replaced the existing generator with something different? Cummins / Onan seems to have cornered this market and with their supply chain issues things are feeling a bit hopeless.

Maybe one of you has an older model sitting in a garage somewhere!

Recently I pulled my one off my 2017 Interstate because I didn’t need it. It had about 50 hours on the clock. I ran it every couple of months for 20n mins to keep it happy.

There is no alternate brand to install in the same space. Either you put in another 2500 from Cummins or you sell the van with no generator.

Thanks so much! Normally I’ll drive just about anywhere for something like this, but not to San Diego from NY. We just completed our second round-trip (with many stops) to CA.

Per the advice from @uncle_bob, I think we are going to list and sell it without the generator. We’ll put the old one in as it will be cheaper to fix than replace once the parts (if ever) become available again.

Honestly we mainly used it to run the microwave in the mornings when boondocking. Adaptation was not hard…
