Rear window screens

Since I travel with a cat, it has come to my attention that I need to replace my rear side window screens with a pet proof screen. How do the screens come off? It seems they may be glued down with a black foam tapeClick image for larger version

There are heavy duty pet screens available, I just need to be able to access the outer side where the cording is. The pet screens don't tear as easily from claws. Click image for larger version

On my 2013 all the screens snap in - clips several places around the perimeter. Your 2018 may differ.

On my 2018 - First make sure the control knob is turned so it does not obstruct the upper corner of screen frame. Then grab both sides and pull out, see pics below.

Cat lover here. "If I fit, I sit" is all that came to mind with your cute kitty picture. Now, please no one yell that I am not staying on topic. The question at hand has been answered.

Thanks so much for the answer. Screen project when I get home. I already bought a roll of the pet proof screen, the cord, and the tool...he tried to get thru my home patio screen door to catch a lizard...he didn't get far but tore a nice hole! He's worth it...he's a good traveller.

Closeup of the 4 internal clips. If they've never been removed, it will feel very stiff and feel like you would destroy the screen frame if you continued to pull. But it will pull out regardless without destroying frame or clips (as may happen with plastic trim clips often). These are metal clips.

Got the screens out, but for anyone interested, I don't think the pet proof screen will work. It is thicker than regular screen and the holes are bigger. My first concern is gnats might be able to get thru. Second, it's plastic, not very pliable so getting it in the groove is a challenge. There are 2 rows of grooves, original screen is splined in the smaller inner groove. The outer groove is actually larger, but the clips are in that groove. The screen is too thick to fit in the inner groove. If I do the outer groove, no way to spline at clip points. Also .140 spline is too big for either groove if using this screen. The original spline is smaller and in pretty good shape, but it's too short moving to the outer groove. So, plan B on the way from Amazon: regular screen and smaller spline. I'll have so much extra screen, I guess I can just redo it any time my dear kitty claws it or pops it out. As he gets older, he may be less interested!
