Radio Box

Since space is a premium on our Interstates I hate not using every space I can. How have you used the ceiling radio box (or what I presume is a radio box)? CB's? Additional radio? Contraband stash?

How is that wired? Is it wired to the MB speakers?

Is yours a 2013 model, per your ID on the left?

Have you traced out the wiring with a meter etc.? Any help in the owner's manual?

Yes I have a 2013 lounge ext. I have done some tracing with the multi meter -positive and negative, but not all the wires.

If the wires are 12V that might be a good place to put my just-installed TPMS. Mine uses a USB cable to charge, others likely use a cigarette lighter plug. Either way the 12V power could be used to power the monitor.

In my 2014.5, there was a non-opening plate on the opening. I found a nice little storage box with a door on EBay that was made to fit the DIN 1 opening. It was even gray to match the interior. It was a nice place to store fuel cards and the like.

My 2018 does not have an opening there.

The new Interstate 24X has a second radio in that location. Attached clip from video by Patrick of Colonial Airstream.

. . . and for that confirmation for 2018.

Not sure if the new 24X location/specs are going to help much IMO.

Happy trails,

Peter

If you do go with a CB, be sure to get the weather band / alert feature on it.
