Every time I hear about this model, I get the Boomtown Rats melody for "I Don't Like Mondays" in my head, except my line is, "I Don't Like Shorties".

The one on that photo is the same one shared by John when he went to the factory

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f240...-a-182320.html

The size of what he have now is perfect for us... could not see us in a shorter version of an AI or even something bigger like the Atlas. We really like the one we have.

We have adjusted to moving around (four of us) quite well. A smaller round table would help me move around the seats better when we have it setup for eating or using board games, but that is on me since I need to get in better shape (different shape than round ).

I am also grateful that we have not run into issues with batteries, system malfunctions and whatnot... pretty good experience so far.

I do want to see the new AI when it comes on the new platform...

I spent some time in a "Shorty" at Alumapalooza. Compared to my extended twin, I wish I had the bathroom and the larger refrigerator from the Shorty. The shorty has better galley space than my Lounge. Made me think about moving my refrigerator into the hanging cabinet to get more galley storage.

I would also go for the Shorty's little microwave in an upper cabinet since all we use the microwave for is heating water or frozen meals. I am even thinking of buying a small microwave to go in the cabinet over the galley and converting the current microwave space into a big drawer or cabinet that we could really use. I already have the laminate to do the job.

OTOH, the driver's seat in the Shorty has limited backward travel. Would be fine for me at my current 5' 8", but tall drivers may have problems. Also, the couch folds right down against the back doors and tall folks have to do without the bed extensions.

That said, the Shorty would be ideal for a solo, non-tall, traveler. It should get great mileage with a lot less weight and the same engine as the 3/4 tonners.

Given the position of the rotated drivers seat shown in the above picture, there must not be a front table option? We got the three captain seat version, as we thought it would be difficult to get into the rotated drivers seat to sit at the front table. The table works well when sitting in the passenger seat and the captains chair behind it. We always leave the lounge in the bed position, so the front table is a must. I can't imagine trying to do with less storage space than we have now.

When eating, I almost always use the rotated driver's seat since it is in better position in relation to the table than the 2nd row seat behind and the back is vertical. At 85, I don't find it difficult at all to slide into the driver's sat with the table up.

The 2nd row seats are usually reclined so that we can comfortably watch the front TV which I have on a swing-down mount that drops it to an easy viewing angle. I have totally removed the rear TV since we never used it.

New 19’ Interstate price and layout

My next B-van will be a shorty Sprinter. Airstream now joins my list of Advance RV, Pleasureway and Roadtrek as a contender. I will make the decision in 2020-2021. Saving the funds now. By then my current Interstate will be over 8 years old with about 130,000 miles.

PS - just checked Colonial Airstream where I bought my current Interstate. Their web pages indicate they have over 20 of these 19 foot Interstates on order, but no pictures yet.

Airstream Shorty

My Interstate 19’ 4x4 should be built next week and I hope to have it in 3 weeks so I will be sure to make a YouTube video. I hope I am not too crowded in the drivers seat at 6’4”.

I just found the Ultramobilty weekly YouTube live recording from June 7 that has an edited version of the original dealer video of the Airstream Interstate 19 that was taken down abruptly. Here is like to the full Ultramobilty video, it it over an hour but the Interstate 19 story is at 20:38.

Enjoy,

I think the 19’ are a great option for small and medium sized solo travelers.

Space economy and great mileage.

I’d like to tour one...

Thanks to DRPEGGAU (John) for sending me the PDF files he had on the new 2019 Interstate 19. I combined the image file with the spec sheet to make the attached brochure.

All those interested in the New Interstate 19 can enjoy.

Thanks for doing this Mike. If anybody has any questions, I should physically have the vehicle at the local dealer later this week and then I am making some changes like adding a 525 amp hour lithium battery instead of the marine batteries.

I get a kick out of how the 19' Shorty floor plan is nearly identical to my 20' Avenue Suite (I knew there was something I liked about it ).

As Pahaska mentions, the front bath limits seat travel, although it's fine for me in my Chevy Express-based model and I'm 6'2", but it's a major consideration. I wouldn't order one without being able to sit in it first.

What I don't know is the rear bed length. The extra foot of length in my Avenue gives me a 76" bed which is minimum for my height. If the Shorty doesn't improve over the 72"-74" beds in the similar Agiles & Ascents, that also rule out consideration for anyone over 6' tall.

Shorty for a Tall-ee

We’ll see how it fits my 6’4.5” size! I believe that the bed is 72 inches and I am a little over 76 inches but I do not lay straight like a 2 x 4 either so it probably is not an issue. I have slept my whole life with my feet hanging over the foot of the bed and probably could not sleep any other way! We used to have a Volkswagen Euro van and driving that was a bit tight but nothing that I couldn’t deal with. This can’t be any worse! It will be like the Taj Mahal in comparison! Should know within 14 days.

DRPEGGAU - Will be looking forward to your YouTube of your new AI. This would be a nice unit for anyone not needing the extra room of the EXT
