Neat wire connectors

I have been happily using common crimp terminals for my wiring changes up to now. I have used a lot of yellow, blue, and red butt connectors. That changed with my purchase of a Goal Zero 1000 that makes use of Anderson Power-Pole PP) connectors. Not having used that connector to date, the GZ got me digging into the information regarding the Power-Pole connectors. I really like them

Common PP sizes are 15, 30, and 45 amps. I have the 12v max cable for the GZ that will supply 40 amps of 12v to my AI 12v system. The output connector on the 12v max is a PP 45 amp pair.

The PP connectors are much more secure than anything I have used before and are arc-resistant when plugging or unplugging. They can be applied without a special tool, with care, but I went ahead and ordered a $35 crimping tool. Accessory cables with the PP ends are expensive, but the raw connectors are very reasonable.

I had been intending to put a switch in the hot lead from the solar. Instead, I'll just insert a 45 amp PP in the line.

I have been using posi lock connectors both personally, and I ordered them for all my positions in the Army as I have found them to be the best connectors. Secure and removable for testing. Never had one fail, from automotive to marine applications.

Neat wire connectors

The Powerpole connectors are used all over with Ham radio gear and systems.

Standardized hermaphroditic connections that are easy to install, sturdy, and reliable. Using a crimp tool intended for them is key. Do not solder them,it does not make them work better.

The only thing I do special is use the little connector retainer clips on stuff that is rarely disconnected and subject to vibration.

All my radio and power supply gear uses them. Highly recommended! Just confirm to the standard polarity on paired connectors. Any vendor will have the data on that.

One note: Some of the China-made connectors you find on Amazon will not fit properly with actual Powerpole connectors. I bought a bag for a solar project for my Goal Zero and the connectors did not fit. Sent them back.

Was this the crimping tool you got?

https://www.amazon.com/TC-1-Ratcheti.../dp/B00F1OUD5W

I recently got a similar crimping tool for the older wire connectors... got tired of the outdated and hard to use crimper that I had... Got this and it has worked great for those...

Yes. Very nice crimper. Very hard to make a bad crimp with this one. When it clicks, the crimp is perfect.

As mentioned Anderson Power poles are used extensively in the HAM radio commmunity because of reliability and for standardization.

For a quality supplier IMHO I would suggest -
Powerwerx https://powerwerx.com/ provides the best support and genuine Anderson products / tools.
