Magnum 1000w issue - burn smell and AC outlets have no power
2021 Interstate 24GL with lithium batts
Last night when we ran the generator, the Magnum started to smell like burnt PCB / electronics. We were staying in Mammoth and it was cold, I wanted to make sure we have enough battery to get through the night.
Everything was still working fine so I thought maybe it’s residual smell from manufacturing. So I didn’t bother
This morning I woke up, all the 120 ac are dead. Including the TV.
I turned on the generator and still nothing from any outlets.
But the microwave was on.
I’m thinking maybe it’s a blown fuse at the Magnum for AC pass through?
I can see 2 tiny switch looking thing on the magnum that says AC In 20amp , AC Out 15 amp
What puzzle me is that it stopped working this morning and it was fine last night

And the Magnum panel shows “Searching” now instead of “Inverting”

Have you checked the circuit breakers in your Magnum? As I recall, there are no fuses but there are 2 circuit breakers on the top section of the inverter. Let us know what you find. Also, check all of your breakers; they are located right below the inverter in the same panel.

The Magnum pass-thru only powers the TV outlets and the DVD player outlet. In a standard coach, all other outlets will be dead if the generator is not on or you are hooked up externally.

my inverter is under the passenger seat in the cockpit, not behind the fuse panel. this is new with 2021 models with lithium batteries, due to the batteries are now in the front of the van.
i'll check the breakers and fuses tomorrow, i have to raise up the bed. just got home.

all the AC outlets are powered through the Magnum on my coach, when generator is on, it draws from generator instead. I use the AC outlets at night to charge my laptop and a few other things.

Please note checking breakers means turn them off and back on since when they trip it is sometimes difficult to tell by looking and also note that some GFI can't be reset without power.
Do you have 12 volt?

12 volt works fine.
I just reset all the breakers, still nothing.
the GFCI outlet behind the 2nd row seat, lights up but no power. the "test" button works and trips the breaker.
even with shore power or generator power, the 120v are completely dead.
it's probably something else. i'll have to go through the schematics.

Looks like everything on the inverter circuit are dead.
Microwave works, as it's on its own circuit.
but the inverter is receiving 120v power, as it still charges the batteries when there's generator or shore power. but it's not passing through the power.
regardless of power source, 120v power goes through the inverter, then out to the receptacles and TV.
dead inverter?

Interesting! Why not give the folks at Magnum Energy a call. They have a very good and patient service department.

Two observations:
(1) OP is listed as having a 2021 Interstate. That unit is firmly under warranty, so this is an Airstream issue.
(2) There may or may not be wisdom to be found in this other thread called Electrical burning, heavy smoke w/ 3yr old grandson sleeping in AI concerning a 2018 Interstate with a Magnum issue.

since i'm going to upgrade to a 2000w anyways, I'll probably just have Magnum replace the defective 1000w, and i can either sell it or use it on another project. i emailed them and asked if its possible for me to warranty it instead of going back to Airstream.
#2 i looked at that too, i think Airstream made a change to it, and added a motorized 12v switch next to the inverter, when AC is detected, the switch connects the batteries. so that won't happen again.
i was really concerned though, that smell wasn't too strong but it was definitely something burnt up. and the inverter was HOT, as I was sitting on the passenger seat using my laptop, i could reach under the seat and felt the heat.
when it happened, the only thing i was drawing 120v was the laptop charger, and the generator was charging the batteries.
