Interstate 19 production suspended

I'm waiting for delivery of an Interstate 19 I signed a contract for in July. It had a build date scheduled for the end of January.
I was just informed by my dealer that production of Interstate 19s has been suspended due to an MB recall of Sprinter chassis for a parking brake issue. Delivery of my RV is currently unknown.

Is anyone else hearing about similar production delays?

Problem is bigger than a parking brake recall. Unless Airstream has your van in their inventory now it may take even longer. Discussions on the Sprinter forum indicate the V-6 diesel Sprinters will be delayed into July 2021 or longer due to emissions certification issues. They are apparently only delivering the 4-cylinder gas and diesel versions now.

I was searching for this news last night and could never find anything about a V6 diesel Sprinter production halt. If this is true, it would be a serious blow to production of all Interstate models, not just the 19.

Thanks for responding. I searched as well and couldn't find anything. Do you have a link or two you could share? I'm considering canceling my order.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear, this delay stuff doesn't seem to end. We're still waiting.

Don’t cancel your order. Try to find out from your Airstream dealer if they have your van in stock. There are several recalls on Sprinters that could really be impacting your delivery. If Airstream has your Sprinter it is likely a 2020 with V-6 diesel and 4x4. They are still available.

Issue I mentioned is for 2021 MY Sprinters.

Here are a couple of threads from Sprinter forum that discusses the 2021 V-6 diesel delays.

https://sprinter-source.com/forums/i...threads/90114/

https://sprinter-source.com/forums/i...threads/93044/

I’ll try to dig up some more authoritative references tomorrow when I have more time.

Looked for more info on 2021 Sprinter delays - but it is a mute issue for your Interstate 19 as I'm sure it is being built on a 2020 Sprinter. There is a recall on 2019-2020 Sprinters with electric parking brake. Here is the details from NHTSA:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaI...rss#recalls650

This recall stops all deliveries as it is against the law to sell a vehicle in USA with an open unresolved recall. Also note that there is no remedy yet on this recall.

For those interested in 2021 Sprinter delays. I could only find information on this from members of the Sprinter forum telling us what the dealers are telling them. Here is the most recent relevant post:
https://sprinter-source.com/forums/i...threads/93684/

I looked at Sprinter inventories from several dealers around me - they are all 2020 models.

I was aware of this rule before picking up my 2020 19 but failed to do a check before driving away from dealer. I picked it up on 7/24/2019 having just been shipped from the factory with an outstanding Mercedes recall start date of 6/3/2019.

I would advise doing the quick online recall check as soon as the VIN is known.

FWIW, No claim to this info being official: Rear calipers leak brake fluid. No remedy yet per MB.

Brake Caliper Recall Letter From M-B

I got my recall letter today from Mercedes for my 2021 AI 19 4x4 on a 2020 chassis. The chassis was built in 9/2020. I bought it in December 2020 a day after its arrival to the dealer. The person who ordered it built decided not to take it. It also had a bad chassis battery that is being replaced under warranty. I have an aftermarket battery until OEM batteries become available.

The recall applies to “certain Model Year 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles.”

“MBAG has determined that the brake caliper of the rear axle may leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake connected to the rear axle service brake system, which could lead to extended brake pedal travel and a changed brake pedal feel. If the condition is not addressed, there might be an increased risk of a crash.”

“We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As the parts become available, we will send you another letter asking you to take you vehicle to an authrized Mercedes-Benz dealer to have the recall completed free of charge.”

I have owned an AS trailer in the past. What you say is true, however I drove my Interstate 19 to a Covid Vaccination Center today, parked in a regular parking spot, used the bathroom before and after the fairly long wait...definitely worth the money.

Yeah, we had an Airstream trailer before. Nothing wrong with the trailer, but our needs and interests changed, so now we're in an Interstate. BTW, having sold our trailer last year and then bought our new-to-us van a few months later, I can tell you from experience that Class B resale values are very high indeed. Thus, I'd have to disagree on the "better resale value" argument.

Interstate 19 production delay

I had an order placed December 2020 for an Airstream Interstate 19 4x4. I was told this week by my dealer with a forwarded note from Airstream that my May delivery would now be in August 2021. Mercedes recall caused delay on chassis and was not expected to be received by Airstream until late July 2021 if car haulers get back on schdule or early August. I canceled my order and may reorder a newer unit when some sense of normal returns. Disappointing...

Maybe let your dealer know if they get a cancellation of a like unit to let you know. You might jump the line?
