Question Installation of Side Screen Door 2018 ASI GT

We are looking to purchase a 2018 ASI GT and it does not have the sliding screen door option, but a magnetic screen you can put up. I know there are problems with it and the dreaded closing the outer door with the screen door closed jamming, but we just like the look of the factory installation.

I have read several of the other threads out there about the adjustment of the screen and removing a screen door but have not found anything relating to a new installation of a screen door assembly.

If anyone knows anything about it I would appreciate any advice.

I thought that all 2918 Gts had the sliding screen. I guess that a prior owner removed it. A magnetic screen would turn me bonkers!

I have had zero trouble with the sliding screen in my GT, and that includes my wife closing the sliding door with the screen closed several times.

You may be able to source the tracks and screens from an RV wrecking yard. If not, the parts catalog has all the part numbers. You can get the parts catalog from Airstream.com.

If, as I suspect, a screen has been removed, there should be screw holes to guide a new installation.

JOHN _ Yes I agree. Brochure also lists it as STD for GT(panel) & Lounge (accordion). A magnetic would turn me bonkers too.

BAREFTRZ - So chances are high prior owner removed it. Did you ask if still somewhere? If they removed it, I doubt the tracks got removed coz that's a lot of work. I have info & video on how it's put in. But it's gonna be hard on a completed GT with the cabinetry and upper cabinets and paneling installed. That's if new tracks need to be installed. See, they have to install the top & bottom tracks first before any of the finish panels & cabinets. At least that's how its done on the accordion style, in my Lounge. So I am making an assumption for the rigid panel GT style. Not to say you can't do it after but it is way easier to install it before all the junk is in.

Exclamation No longer need the installation information

Thanks JOHN & ALEX for the replies:

I thought it was odd that it didn't have the screen, being that every newer van I have looked at either in person or online had the screen. I suspect that the existing screen was damaged by closing the door and then was subsequently removed. The replacement assembly is priced right at $2200 without installation so a complete removal with a magnetic replacement seems to be a cheap work around. I would hate to have to fiddle with a magnetic screen every-time I stepped outside.

Not to worry, I have decided to move on and am still looking. The van was very clean, everything worked, had low miles, the VB-Air and everything else we wanted except the screen door. However, upon running the Carfax, I found an additional owner that the seller didn't disclose.

That in-itself I didn't figure was too bad, however, there have been two owners this year and the seller has only owned it for 2 months which didn't match up with his story about when he bought it. This led me to question the deal and I didn't want to get stuck with a lemon or having to explain the short ownership issue whenever we decided to sell.

SO, I DON'T need to know how to replace the screen door

BAREFTRZ - Yes, I heard and I agree. That in itself MAY not be a big issue had it been disclosed voluntarily & accurately. But non-disclosure of what is important info like that raises red flags for me too. So moving on, there's always gonna be another one.
