Idaho Springs, CO ...Silverthorne, Georgetown, Evergreen Colorado

Hey All -

Looping through Colorado for a week or so ... need a safe place to park.

I've decided to take seven + days, and tour the lovely mountains of Colorado on my motorcycle sometime over the next couple of weeks.

I'm thinking of leaving the van and moto trailer parked - but don't really know the area(s) very well. So local knowledge is appreciated.

I'm not really looking for permission from forum members, and don't really care to hear about the risks. We are careful with our vans, and we take great care of our vans, but our vans are owned to enhance our lives.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Especially if you have 20 acres of land and don't mind looking at her for 2-4 days until I re-position her to a new location. Bourbon bribes, or George Clooney Tequila bribes, can be provided of course. Or I can reciprocate at another time with a Cirrus Aircraft flight / Citation Bravo flight etc ...


I don't need hook-ups, or any services ...

Of course I can take it to the area AS dealer, who's happy to look after it (but then, Parking Lot rash is a real risk)...

So, while it's a longshot ... I thought I'd inquire.

Looking forward to many sweepers, twisties and a change of scenery from this very hot, desert Summer scene.

There is a very nice family run RV park in Kremmling. Red Mountain RV Park. I believe that I remember seeing some storage there as well. Worth a call.

Lovely Colorado... I’d forgotten how beautiful it is here. Crazy dangerous drivers but some beautiful winding curvy roads!

Some terrific food, including Secret Stash pizza in Crested Butte.

Central City, CO ... I wasn’t prepared for this unique spot.

Frisco was cheery with all the flowers and the city streets shut down - in favor of outdoor dining and pedestrian walking zones.

Nice roads for motorcycle touring ...

Cottonwood Pass from Beuna Vista to Almont, (then you North to Crested Butte) is remarkable!

Idaho Springs North to Estes park was lovely, so was the officer who pulled me over for speeding. He was polite and encouraged me to get a motorcycle which wasn’t so “Red” lol. Just a warning today, since I’m on social security and all.

I’ve repositioned the van, in anticipation of some cooler day’s ahead. Found a great campsite along the river near Carbondale.

BTW ... Carbondale offers free parking overnight in a city lot, next to the police station, right in town - so cool. (24 hour max stay). A remarkably quiet overnight, in a quaint Colorado town which I’ve previously overlooked.

Breckenridge… Offers up to 14 days parking at $5/night near the police station on Airport Road.

Hope you’re all getting “out there” exploring ...

Will be headed to Ouray and Telluride soon and Black Canyon, + Pikes Peak as well.

Wouldn’t it be great if our “Forum Mantra” was to share knowledge and inspire one another?


This trip has evolved into moving the van every few days and utilizing it as a “base camp” for motorcycle touring. Even if you don’t moto ... it’s a fun concept to explore areas/regions this way.

A terrific trip...

Carbondale is “nicer” than I thought ..

Pierogi’s are wonderful

Fire pit along the river is Bogan Flats site number 24 south of Carbondale

Image of the aspens is Kebler Pass - route 12 traveling southeast into Crested Butte. Secret Stash Pizza in CB is “life Changing!!!”

Black Canyon, west of Gunnison, is remarkable - especially starting this Sept 7th

Glad you've enjoyed "my backyard"! We our fortunate enough to live here so we get to get out & explore these areas using "home" as our base camp. With all our "toys" - Airstream, Harleys & Porsche the biggest question is which one(s) do we take!

We've ticked off a most of your hotspots as well this summer on way or another.

Thanks for sharing ScottP. Been wanting to take a trip like that this year, but just couldn’t get timing to work out. Might follow in your footsteps next year. Colorado is my second favorite state! Such beautiful scenery. (Still like home the best!)…. Safe travels!

I am in lovely lovely Indiana now… After visiting my son at Xavier university in Ohio… Had a chance to ride motorcycle around Kentucky, and spent a day with the college kids touring Bardstown Kentucky and all the terrific bourbon distilleries.

Just had a nice visit with an Airstream delivery driver… He just saw the sticker of an Atlas he’s hauling .., and then he looked inside… And couldn’t believe it was worth $250,000 LOL ... I told him he should be careful… Couple of airstream trailers, and a Atlas van it’s probably over 400 grand… He’s a target for a hijack!

Hey SCOTTP. We were back in Glenwood Hot Springs to take grandkiddos but that was wayyyy after you went through. Maybe next time in OURAY !

Also stayed at the new Canyon View Resort for 7 days before heading back home. Probably the best bath houses in CO that I have seen to date.

Sorry I missed you on my way through. After the bourbon tour in Bardstown Kentucky I headed North to visit my son at Xavier in Ohio, then to Duluth Minnesota to visit my in-laws. Bringing the van back in two weeks through the Badlands and Ouray + Telluride + Black Canyon Colorado in October.

Vegas + Red rocks in November…see you then (I owe you for all your amazing advice … you too Box and others).
